Bad smells, what's about to fail?

Hi folks

L322 2007 SC, started going a bit jerky when cruising and slowing down to approach junctions, like the engine was misfiring or I was touching the brakes. Engine feels smooth so I am assuming it's transmission related.

When I got out the car, I got a distinct burned clutch smell.

I have driven cautiously since, not many miles, and the car seems to be driving fine, but there is a constant smell of bad farts / burned rubber / clutch inside the car and from outside. Doesn't feel like the brakes to me.

I am unsure what is about to drop off or fall to pieces. I understand there is a lock-up clutch in the torque converter, but would I smell this as it's supposedly sealed? Or is it likely to be something in transfer box itself?

Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Check the temperatures of the discs. Paying close attention to the rears. They should not be frying pan hot after a run. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Spot on northernmonkeyjones

I had ignored the brakes as they were done 6 months ago. However just went for a short run and the back nearside disc was as hot as the sun.

Thanks for the prompt to check, it's always the most obvious thing. 2007 4.2 Supercharged

If you can spanner, then I would start by stripping the wheel and calliper off, then removing the pads. Check to see if they come out easy, if so the. It’s probably the calliper, if they are jammed in tight, then unbolt the carrier and clean it with a wire brush and file removing the rust until the pads go in easily. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
