Failed MOT

The first time in over 30 years I've had a failure. Not a big fail parking brake below efficiency, that now becomes a major fail under the new rules. I only went to book a test and they said now so in it went. Did not do my pre test checks and I forgot that the brake is next to useless, never use it anyway.
Not a hard fix most likely just needs adjusting, however I need to wait for my son as a slipped disc prevents me doing well most anything and certainly lifting wheels on and off is a no no.
Last fail I had was a bulb failure that I had tested but blown by the time I got to the test.
10 days for free retest, no problem.

You may need to take the rear discs off and clean up the drum surfaces and shoe pads. Did mine recently and the amount of Censored in there was unbelievable. Handbrake worked really well afterwards. Thumbs Up

I will remove and inspect as a matter of course. Seen some scary pictures of fragmented brake material.
On a further safety note I suspect that the original shoes had asbestos content, beware of the dust!

Thanks Joe90. I had 2004 in my head, some things stay there. The dust is still nasty.

2004 was the date for fitting new pads with asbestos to classic vehicles - pre 1973 - but not any more Smile .

Don't you just love this site.

Thanks for the offer my baby will be round, he is 29 now but still my youngest, and can use his body building for something useful rather than posing.

Thanks again much appreciated.
