Facelift 2004 weird alarm buzzer!

So, as the subject suggests I recently acquired a 2004 petrol with a 2010+ facelift, It has an annoying high pitched alarm that goes off, not related to anything as far as I can tell. It is inside the cabin and low decibel but annoying. Tried turning things on and off, sometimes it will disappear for a couple of days then back again, long shot but any ideas guys ....... thanks in advance Bow down

My 2004 occasionally does it - normally when its hot outside and it sounds like its coming from under the drivers side. I've never got to the bottom of it but had a couple of theories that it was either a bug splettered on one of the parking sensors confusing it all (not likely) or the ECU cooling fan in the electrics box under the bonnet in front of the driver. Took that out and cleaned it and lubricated it.

It still comes on every now and again - lasts about 20 - 30 seconds, even when driving, but never got to the bottom of it. There is a buzzer box under the panel above the drivers seat - fairly sure that's what makes the noise, but why it happens and why its a different pitch to a normal noise coming from that buzzer I have no idea.

sorry, doesn't really help, other than tell me I'm not going mad. Current Fleet:-

have you by chance jet washed it? I gave mine two goes because she was seriously neglected. afterward it went mental every time she was put in reverse, (no there was nothing near the rear sensors) it does now seem to be settling down. turning her off momentarily does stop it though, perhaps ive inadvertently jammed something in one of the sensors.

just a thought!

Interesting Nick, has got worse in this warm weather, its definitely linked to something as can start and stop when boot is opened or bonnet or door. Then starts randomly but I like the hot weather link, will keep looking , thanks Thumbs Up

another guess is that it could be a faulty bonnet switch and a faulty alarm module.....does the alarm sound ok ie full volume and not a high pitch noise....

you can test by opening the window and locking the FF....wait a minute or so then put your hand in through the window to set of the alarm. ... - .- -.

Stan, I like your thinking, will try that today it does start when boot is opened as well, but randomly, my guess is something to do with facelift wiring, its a weird noise the source is definitely somewhere behind the lower dash. More annoying than anything else.

My main concern as a long time paranoid 322 owner is the bloody battery Rolling with laughter

the battery would certainly be a concern if this is happening all the time...

the only thing i can think of which is in the lower dash (by drivers footwell) is the front pdc buzzer... ... - .- -.

I had such a noise for a short period of time, I had a suspicion it was caused by something in the large under bonnet electrics box with the noise coming into the cabin via small air duct from the box ventilation fan. Before I got round to having a detailed look the sound went away and has not returned for some years now.

another thought is that the conversion might have chaffed or caught a wire that feeds the pdc and when you go over a bump or such it sets of the sounder. ... - .- -.

I would lower the panel above the pedals and expose the PDC sounder box - see if its that making the noise - or maybe disconnect it for a while and see if it still happens. Or press the PDC button when it goes off to see if that stops it.

As I said above mine only ever happened occasionally when warm - I think I have convinced myself its bug splatter on the one of the front bumper parking sensors - if it is, then that box holds the key.

But probably not a bad idea to clean and lube the cooling fan in the ECU box anyway. Current Fleet:-

long shot for you, but I had a strange noise in the cabin, front area.
It would only sound some of the time, any how it turned out to be a faulty PDC and the speaker was making the sound as if parked up to something close....but not the beep, beep close proximity sound you normally have.
PDC changed and no strange sounds when on the move.

Check all the PDC that they are having that positive clicking sound when RR is on. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!
