Seems split hoses and inlet manifold account for a fair few problems.
Is this something that affects all cars eventually or only a proportion?
And if only a proportion, is it a small or large proportion ?

Is it worth changing over to the new improved design and "repairing" the problem before it occurs ?

I'd just wait and see what happens. My 3.6 was faultless in the three years I owned it, but the 4.4 has had issues, very much luck of the draw I think. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Thanks Stu.

I'm going to see how long the repair lasts for, out of curiosity more than anything.

This is my first RR although I have longed for one ever since I had a ride in my school friends dad's car back in the late seventies which was an early four door in green if I remember correctly.

I also run a convertible Jaguar XKR and I never cease to be amazed by some of the problems that occur on these top end luxury cars. I understand the need to be constantly pushing the barriers with design and R&D but I am surprised that some of the issues that do occur seem so repetitive through a model's timeline, such as plastic manifold components splitting on the 3.6 and then also on the 4.4 as an example Rolling Eyes .

Anyway, moan over. I need to go and fix a broken door handle cable now. Unsurprisingly, it seems mine is not the first to break either Thumbs Up

Andy

I think that this is the reason top end cars are such good value after three years, the people who can afford to buy them new, know exactly how much they cost to run when the warranty runs out.. Laughing Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Update

Well, so far so good. My Bodgit & Scarper advanced technology, NASA inspired manifold repair using sticky goo is still holding up! There's been no repetition of the dreaded Gong after several weeks of daily use and a couple of thousand miles on the clock, so all in all I'm quite chuffed Mr. Green

I have in mind will at some point purchase a new manifold assembly as obviously that is the right thing to do, but I'm going to leave my repair for a while yet as I really am curious to see how it lasts.

Been through all these symptoms! I ended up with a split manifold! Car ran fine until I put the caravan on the back! Thankfully, MMP Dundee, are on my doorstep and Mikey did a fantastic job of replacing both manifolds and my torque converter at the same time!
Not a cheap errand, especially after replacing both turbos last year!
Car now runs like a dream, and if I can get another year out of it, without trouble, I’ll be happy!
