I am going to have to join the "chirrup club"
Pretty sure it comes from OS front corner , but only heard it when going slowly?
I thought it might be the airspring?, but does it so infrequently I am not sure.

Pretty sure it's from the turbo plumbing.

Just had a turbo actuator changed on mine and the noise appears to have stopped. Apparently the original units corrode and start sticking. The new unit has a different design to prevent this.

Just done a 200 mile round trip and my chirrup is definitely getting worse ( more frequent, not louder).
How big a job is the turbo actuator to change?
Buzz1500, is yours still OK?, if so might have to get it done.

I'm afraid it's bad news, the noise is still there and occurring more often now.

My car is going into the local independent for a service tomorrow so I'm going to ask them to have another look.

I have a theory which may be total codswallop but i'll put it out to the forum for all to comment...Be gentle please.

I reckon it might be a failing turbo boost valve, otherwise known as a blowoff valve. The fluttering noise is caused by air pressure in the turbo where the excess or unwanted boost cannot escape as designed via the boost valve. The noise in my car appears at low revs and just after upward gearshifts so I reckon it's the small turbo that's making the noise.

All is explained via the following website.

Just a thought but could it be the alternator freewheel/overrun clutch? I don't even know if it has one but they can start making funny noises when they start to sieze up!

I regularly hear a flutter which I suspect is the noise that most others are hearing. I'm happy thinking it is the secondary turbo inlet isolation valve because I can cause it to occur by having revs and throttle opening that begins to use the secondary turbo then back off the throttle slightly, at which time the noise occurs most of the time. I had the same symptom with my 3.0 D4 - driving just on the engine load and revs where the secondary turbo begins to be used, then backing off slightly.

I understand that the hesitation at 70 mph / 110 kph is cured with an ecm update. Mine is back-level by at least 2 updates which hopefully will fix the hesitation.

Mine mysteriously cured itself for weeks and weeks (over a very wet winter period if this is significant? ) , but every now and then I think it is starting up again, but so randomly and far apart I am no nearer solving the issue.

mine still does it on occasion, but I'm 30000 miles further on and it hasn't gone Kaboom so im thinking its at worst annoying and at best a cool noise.

Mine has the new type actuator from the factory so its the one which doesn't stick. Im not thinking its that causing it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

No blow-off valve fitted to these engines.

Can those of you who are concerned go out in your car and find an incline, then reverse up it covering your brake pedal with your left foot! Even partly applying your brakes to make you rev it higher. This should induce the secondary turbo chatter...

Just wondering if this is what at least some of you can hear? And this phenomenon is normal Shocked Thumbs Up

I reverse up an incline to get in my workshop and I get the chatter every time as I have to accelerate and the back off quick....

Thanks for putting me out of my misery, that now is the only thing I could not explain but you have described exactly what I experience ie pushing my tin tent back into the driveway and as was described by the Mr Northenmonkey?

Big Thumbs Up
