2.30 amps parasitic draw? 2003 L322 TD6

Hi All,
I have a parasitic draw that I cant find. a recently purchased fully charged battery is flat to 5.85 volts in the morning. I charged the battery back up again and have tried to find the drsw of amps. The multi meter reads 2.30 amps are drawring whilst the Rangie is asleep.
I disconnected the bonnet alarm switch and pulled the theif control fuses also.
So I have now pulled all the fuses in the glove box, pulled the fuses and relays in the drivers side rear cubby hole and pulled the Relay from inside the ECU box in the engine bay.
Nothing lowers the AMP reading coming from the Negative battery terminal to Negative lead.

The next step is the Alternator check to see if a diode is reverse currenting. Not sure yet how to go about this.

Suggestions???

I was going to suggest alternator as you seem to have eliminated most other possibilities.

I've had parasitic draws in the past on my 04 and nothing really ever showed up on any tests.

The main culprits are:-

1) Satnav drive
2) Final Stage Resistor for heater/fan system
3) Headlight wipers - if the motors have stopped working on either side then it leaves the circuit open Current Fleet:-

To test for current drain down through the alternator the easiest way to test for it initially is to disconnect the large cable that goes to the alternator and starter from the +ve jump post. Then put your ammeter between the jump post and the end of the cable. No current should show.
Granted the starter is in circuit but it's a start. If a current does show you can then disconnect the alternator at the starter to isolate the alternator and then test between the end of that cable and the bolt on the alternator you disconnected it from.
Hope that makes sense. Thumbs Up

nicedayforit, the thick cable that goes from the jump post on the engine side of the of the bulk head only seems to go directly to the starter motor ,am I not seeing something?

Is there then not another cable looping from the starter to the alternator?

I just found out there is a hiden fuse box inside the Ebox in the engine compartment which I did not see, so will pull those fuses also.

Niceday for it,
I'll have a look at the starter lead for a jump to alt.
Checked Rave wiring diagram and it shows the loop you talk about so will do a test tomorrow on alt.

To test for current a from jump stud to alt, I place the amp meter between the lead and the stud,, I assume i need to reconnect the negative cable back onto the batter first? I don't want to damage my multmeter .

You really need a clamp meter to check for parasitic drains. Disconnecting cables and putting a multimeter inline will often 'wake' the car up again.

Parasitic drains will be measurable on both positive and negative cables.

Disconnect the bonnet switch, lock the car and leave it until the little red light on the centre console goes out. Then put clamp meter on the red cable going to the jump start point, to check the alternator, and the red cable going off to the fuse box for all other circuits. You can then check individual circuits by looking for a voltage on the fuses without pulling them. I ended up with a list of circuits with a draw on when the car was asleep. Some of these are normal, as you will always have 50 or so mA (0.05A) even when everything is good. I had about 200mA (0.2A) and managed to get mine down to 100mA after finding water in the Bluetooth control box in the left hand side cubby. Still too much, but I can live with it. 2.3A is a huge draw!

Just notice your location. I'll happily bring my clamp meter to you and find all your parasitic drains for nothing more than travel and accommodation costs Very Happy Very Happy RR History

MY BAD,! it's not 2.30 Amps, I misread the new meter. its 0.230 amps.
Today I checked the battery lead to alt/starter with a clamp meter, no reading. I checked each fuse whilst they were plugged in and got nothing.
I pulled out the FBH fuse and its associated FAn fuse, I did hear some rumblingsvbehind the glove box a couple of weeks ago. I don;t use the FBH here.
The next will be to pull the battery and check the wiper park relay.

0.23 amps is still not good...

Update, I found a shorted couple of wires in the spare well, they were for my reverse camera i had installed in the bumper a while ago, the wiring had rubbed through on the body work. The pos wire seems to be live and is shorting to earth. this may be my problem. .
