That's a good mpg. Is that mainly motorway miles at a sensible speed? Might get a tdv8 4.4 next year..... Thumbs Up

Craig - what's an average mpg for the 4.4 tdv8 for mainly long runs? Looking to get one for 60 mile commute per day. Would bring it to you for a thorough look over and have any common faults rectified...

I am going through exactly the same questions myself (TDV8 or 5.0).

Problem is, the most recent (and newest) Land Rover I owned was a V8 Disco 2, and before that, a TD5, which is a strangely similar argument.

I really need a test drive, or at least be driven in each. I thought of taking a couple of local forecourt ones for a test drive but don’t really want to waste their time if I’m not serious about buying those particular ones.

First world problems, eh? Laughing

I've never driven a 5.0 SC, but I was so impressed with the 4.4 TdV8 we bought for my wife to tow with that I got one myself, so we have double trouble! I do reasonable length journeys in mine (usuall upward of 30 miles and frequently 60+ miles, so anything from 60 miles per day to 150 miles per day, although not every day) and I get around 29 mpg regular as clockwork and I don't hang around. With cruise control set at 75mph on the motorway, an easy 32 mpg is on the cards (in winter with all the lights on and I leave the aircon on all the time). My wife's car does around 23 - 24 mpg mostly around town (owned 18 months, 10k miles and no DPF issues) and around 20 mpg towing 2 tonnes of horse trailer with horse.

There's no shortage of performance either, they're not sports cars so why the hell anyone would want silly 0-60 times is completely beyond me in a car like this. Oh, and they don't handle like sports cars either, but they steer accurately and consistently, and ride well, far more important (obviously the same for a petrol engined car).

The diesel isn't as refined as a petrol engine at idle (not that it's rough, a very long way from it, just not as refined), but it's still quiet, and it sounds like a V8 when revved.

The 4.4 TDV8 was the first fullfatrr to officially return over 30mpg on the published average fuel figures.

A Trap

My 3.6 averages between 27-31mpg in hilly Spain, we don’t have traffic but that’s still good for mainly rural roads and occasional dual carriageway air on full blast for at least half the year, lights always on.

4.4 TDV8 and I'm seeing 13litres/100km at the moment, which is about 22mpg at best.

I'm still driving it like I just bought it (rather than my preferred style of "drive it like you stole it"). Probably similar terrain to you though ur20v, hilly mountain roads, country roads and some occasional dual carriageway and autopista.

I'm still on my second tank of fuel though, since purchasing in August - thanks Covid! Smile

29.2mpg average on my 4.4 TDV8 with mixed driving but most journeys 30 miles plus. Today I did a 300 mile run mainly motorway and reset one of the trip meters beforehand - it managed 33.3mpg.

L405 SDV8 is definitely more economical than L322 TDV8 one the same journey - but a 30 mpg average seems very much a stretch unless you like slipstreaming artics on the motorway.

Mines currently at around 31.5mpg and I don't slipstream anyone but I do stick to speed limits. In fact most of it isn't Motorway driving. Geoff

What’s the torque feel like in real world driving? Does the Diesel feel more relaxed in everyday driving? Does the SC need to be revved a bit more?

The torque from the 4.4 is epic, and more attainable. I can, well could, do my commute without going over 2000 rpm if I wanted.

The TDV8 has more torque, the Supercharged more power....higher up the Rev range though.

I’d suggest driving both.... then you will be able to decide which suits you best.
