Yes Craig so wise, just not worth the hassle for that price. I completely got it even before I started..

If it was just a case of me I walking into a dealer and sticking to that kinda price, I'd do it. But I don't have a relationship with any LR dealer, I have a strong feeling if I would not get that price.

Or should I press on the book price side of the argument?
. Cheers, Greg

Nino, I think that is the other EGR sensor? The one on the EGR maybe?
Doesn't look at all familiar. Mike's diagram shows correct one.
.
Yes, Nino's pictures show the one in the EGR outlet pipe in the V, next to the oil cooler.

Can you get to what appears to be a 2nd bolt retaining the rear heat-shield to loosen it in case that's enough to provide the needed clearance?
Would a small air ratchet be a suitable tool?

Actually, I would be bending the edge of the heat shield down using a big, long screw-driver and hammer.

Hi Graeme, yes I managed to get the little 8mm bolt out. I bent up the top shield but it wouldn't get out of the way enough. I like your second suggestion, if I could find/make something that would hook/hold on the edge while I banged it, I think it would give enough space for the socket.
Cheers, Greg

Just a bit of an update but no progress..

I've been underneath looking for alternate access for hands and tools. It seems a long way up from the underside, you can't even get a clear view of the sensor.

Which is weird because when you're looking in from the top it seems very far down. Why is it so far up from underneath too? Tardis engine bay.

The next thing I looked at while underneath was how hard the exhaust heat shield would be to remove. Answer: really hard.

So now I'm back to top access (also a b***h) and bending the heat shield out of the way as removing seems out of the question. Bending has also been so far impossible, I've even made up a couple of 'tools' - various shaped bits of metal to feed in a lever away the shield. No joy so far.

So progress is zero despite efforts. Not giving up yet, but it's definitely testing my resolve.

. Cheers, Greg

I've tried several times but can't get it out. Not giving up but any tips from your guy GG????

Craig strange it's still occurring on 405s, would've thought they've revised the sensor.

. Cheers, Greg

GGs post also disproves the ghost code theory.

No, the 405's suffer exactly the same as the 322's... I have 7 mates with 405's and every one has had this sensor/probe issue! Interestingly 4 have had to have the drain mod carried out too! Come on JLR Rolling Eyes

Were any of the L405 original sensors the revised design or were they all the early design?

Im guessing at some point JLR fitted the revised sensors at point of build... Just don't know when that was... Rolling Eyes

I even tried to make a tool to bend the exhaust heat shield - just to get the special socket on the bloody sensor!!!

I'll get the GoPro on a stick down there tomorrow and hatch a new plan....

I'm so keen to get it done and watch the code disappear like GG above! Thanks Craig for your advice - GG's experience proves your advice all along.

I have to say we are very fortunate to benefit from all your experience.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Cheers, Greg
