United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black


33 MPG from Norwich to Hounslow - following speed limits throughout @ with average speed approx 57 mph for the 150 mile journey.
Seems quite good for a 3.6 tdv8 with 140k on the clock!

Edited to add: For the last few tanks I have been running on BP ultimate diesel. On that subject, any ideas how many tanks of diesel you would have to use for it to desludge your engine so you see an mpg benefit?

Just ran from Scotland to Ashbourne , 290 miles sticking to limits etc ... 23.6mpg

Not bad at all for a supercharged.

A 400mile trip up to Skye in the summer also surpassed the 22mpg mark as well. V8 or else ...

to and from work, roughly 20 miles of A and twisty B roads.
I get between 26 and 28 mpg.

Occasionally it drops to ~20 for one journey only despite driving in the same manner, not sure why. Too many toys, not enough time

The Bournemouth trip was at 02:30 this morning, keeping between 60 - 70 mph (nearer 60 than 70). Its impressive for a big motor, love it. BMW i3 Electric Car

England 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 V8 Stornoway Grey

Mines done 24.4mpg, 2012, tdv8, calculated rather than what the car says ,normally 10% over. That's over 12k miles, Texaco fuel, includes 2k of towing between 1t and 2.8t, driven reasonably hard 70% of time. Cheers

Recently drove Cambridge to the midlands in my 4.4 petrol/LPG. I tanked up in Cambridge and then again as soon as I got home, the actual mpg on LPG was 18.5mpg (driving at 70mph).

However I only paid 53p a litre for the LPG so the petrol equivalent economy worked out to 44mpg. This whilst enjoying the refinement of the silky smooth bmw m62tub V8 Smile

Around town it only does 9 - 11mpg on LPG but still works out to approx 25mpg when adjusting for the lower price of gas.

I used to run a 4.2 classic on LPG and it is pretty good when the cost of fuel is considered, the 4.4 TDV8 is however also silky smooth (well it is in my opinion), fuel available everywhere, no loss of boot space (my LPG truck had tanks underneath but many dont and you dont have a potential bomb on board. In the unlikely event of a crash and a fire I would not want me asnd my family in a LPG powered vehicle, that was the reason I got rid of my first rangie. I know all about the pressure relief valves venting the gas and the tanks being very strong, if however there was a fire, its not good. BMW i3 Electric Car

AJ no offence but what you have just said about LPG tanks being a potential bomb is complete crap. Plenty of tests have been done (and are available to see online) which prove that LPG tanks are not only much safer than petrol tanks but they are able to withstand massive impacts without exploding.

In the unlikely event of a crash and fire in the car I don't think any occupant is going to sit around waiting for the car to go up in flames regardless of the fuel the car uses. If it's a situation where the occupant is trapped well again it would make no difference on if the car had LPG or not as the petrol tank would explode well before the LPG tank. 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 v8 LPG, Java Black, 22' Hawke Alloys, Black Beast

Hi Knightrider, no offence taken but if you think LPG is safer than petrol or diesel you too are talking crap. LPG is under pressure, it is far more likely to leak when physical damage takes place if you dont believe me Im quite happy to stand near a fire and put a nail into a fuel can containing diesel, you have to do the same if you really believe what you claim with a camping gaz cylinder. I doubt you would take the challenge we all know there would be a huge fire from it and potentially serious injury. I accept totally the gas tanks are very strong but impacts in a crash can also be severe, you would have to be unlucky. You mentioned online, heres a few for you, remember I have run LPG in the past but after looking into the aspects of it decided it was not a fuel for my future on health and safety grounds and I did not wish to endanger my family for the sake of a few pence in fuel costs.

AJ did you actually bother to watch any of those links you sent?? The only one out of those that is definitely without doubt a auto LPG incident is the one where the guy in Belgium fills up moments before the explosion. One of those clips you sent you can clearly see the gas explosion is from the house not a car and the other videos there is no evidence to show they were due to auto LPG.

Also it's not just saving a few pennies, you're talking approx 50% less fuel running costs. I accept that there is a risk involved with LPG (the same as with any form of flammable fuel) but your comments are both scaremongering and factually incorrect.

Knightrider, if you look at my first mention of LPG I acknowledged that the tanks were strong, the relief valves were present etc. I know one of the video's was a house but they all had compressed gas involved. If you consider risk assessments from an engineering point of view as soon as compressed gas is involved it instantly becomes more dangerous it simply has to do. My comment about saving a few pence is with reference to comparing it to a 4.4 V8 diesel which can get to around 38 mpg in my case so in terms of cost per mile youre looking at 13.3p per mile on your LPG, I pay 15.6p per mile on my diesel - a few pence difference.
My comments are not scaremonger just factual and my formed opinion, I used to work offshore in oil and gas and have therefore a healthy respect for danger, I have a private pilots license and also respect machinery for very, very good reasons. There is absolutely no doubt that the level of danger clicks up a few points on the scale when you run on LPG, it has to, it's obvious in pure engineering terms. As the end user you have to decide whether the level of risk (probabilty of something occuring x the consequence if it does) is worth 2.3p per mile. In my view it's not hence why I run diesel, you could also level that in running diesel I also create potential danger to everyone around due to the particulates and the NOx that my chosen fuel produces. We all have the freedom of choice and thats a good thing. I'm sorry you appear to have been offended by my analytical view, but as far as i'm concerned I stand by comments that are born from experience running LPG and years of industrial experience in general.

Ignoring the over optimistic onboard fuel computer for a minute, here’s what an SDV8 September ‘17 L405 looks like over >32,000 miles.

Usually driven fairly gently, hardly ever in traffic, but quite a few hills and a fair amount of country lanes. Taken out of Cornwall and taken on a legal speeds journey, the genuine figures (not computer) will increase by around 3-4mpg - just once reaching the giddy heights of 32! Shocked (you can see those peaks below)
