Towing with an sdv8

Hi , I am looking for the experience of fellow forum members who tow with a sdv8. Our l405 would not hold top gear (Cool when pulling our twin axle Swift Conqueror, even on a level motorway. Our previous 3ltr tdv6 Sport rarely dropped out of top gear (6).
It's not the relaxed towing experience I was expecting with a v8.

But was your V6 turning over at 1200 rpm at 60 mph? I guess maybe not, the V8 is little above tickover at 60 mph and wont be best place for making it's maximum torque. I would kind of accept 8th gear as overdrive and not expect too much of it at the legal speed limit, I'm sure if you managed 90+ mph it would stay in 8th gear. BMW i3 Electric Car

Shocked

I have no idea what gear mine is in, but it's certainly a relaxed towing experience.

Even when I've overloaded my trailer, I've found it a pleasure

Something wrong with it then - I have frequently towed an Ifor Williams at max train weight - and way above - over 4T on private roads totally without issue. In short it’s the best tow car in the world.

Are your Brakes dragging - is the RR behaving normal in other respects ? 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

my tdv8 (not an SDV8)regularly tows 2.5T on a twin axle and holds top gear at 60mph on flat and gentle inclines. Cheers

My 17my car towed a twin axle trailer with 2.5T over 1000 miles in one go on motorways in top gear at 72mph. Best all round tow car currently on sale.
I guess your's possibly has an issue or you'd not be making any negative comments.

Thank you all for your replies. The car is perfect in all other aspects. I didn't intend to sound so negative, the overall driving experience ,towing or solo is great.
Maybe I was expecting to much given the engine revs at 60mph ,with such a tall top gear. The v8 in 7th gear is turning adout the same as the Sports tdv6 in 6th.
