Blown speaker, bit of advice?

Hi guys, I think I may have blown a speaker, I am hearing a 'rattle' instead of thump thump thumping bass.

I have the premium HD HK, it's the NS rear pillar speaker, numbered 8 on this pic. The 1200w ICE is epic and I must admit I do give it a workout.

I wondered if the trim panel is vibrating. I have fitted a rear cam and whilst I haven't removed that trim panel, I did lift the tailgate rubber, pull that panel back a bit and then fed the dash cam cable in there. But I checked with the speaker pumping and the when I hold/grip the trim panel in various places, it doesn't seem to be the cause.

If I remove the speaker, any tips to look for?

I wondered if I should swap the two 8's - perhaps that will tell me amp vs speaker?

Any tips most welcome.

. Cheers, Greg

I found the nuts holding the bass speaker were loose allowing the whole thing to vibrate. Tightened up the nuts, never been a problem since. Could be worth a try. Thumbs Up

panel off , see if it vibrates.....

if it still vibrates , disconnect speaker and see if that solves it.....

if it does , put ''new speaker' on your xmas list..

Thx Nicedayforit, a great shout.

Stan I'm scared to ask Santa (aka Duckworth Dan) how much for one of those....

Yes I'll get that panel off, was just mainly wondering once I've got the speaker in hand what to look for.... Cheers, Greg

It may be obvious, however it may well be something in the coil.

I had a house speaker blow once. Looked perfect, made a god awful racket! My front Ps door speaker has developed a bit of a rattle at high vols. can’t be bothered to take the panel off!! Turned it down a bit. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Had a poke and found it's not the pillar speaker, it's the sub.

Looks pretty buried behind the trim, just forward of the NS internal access panel.

I can get my hand in there and feel the speaker.

Wondering what the rest of the black box contains, it's massive. (No. 10 on the above diagram)

Having a feel around the speaker I can deaden and even eliminate the popping sound with my hand with a bass-y track playing.

Any sub woofer experts out there?

Wondering what I need to check for I guess....

Thanks, Greg

. Cheers, Greg

Yes sure Bushy makes sense and I found this is the WM which is basic but a sensible starting point:
