Quick engine oil change?

I've been toying with the idea of changing the engine oil inbetween services now the old girl is getting on in her miles (77K), just to ensure that she runs as sweet and smooth as possible. Nothing fancy, just a drain, new filters and refill. (I like that peace of mind, makes me warm and fuzzy inside Laughing )

I've not got under the oily bits of my cars for some years (With my Series 3 Land Rover it was every other day!), so, can someone who knows about these ones tell me if it IS really simple?

I've seen that various places sell service kits for about £35 that includes the air, engine, fuel, pollen filters plus a sump plug washer.

Is it just a case of removing the plastic tray, undoing the sunmp plug etc? How accessible is the oil filter?

Answers on a postcard please

PS> I just looked in the Owners Manual P.277 and it mentions 4 grades of oil and say to consult the temperature ranges specified, however, I reckon there's a printing error cos all four temp ranges are against 5W30 SAE.

I used to have a tool which was basically a tube with an electric pump on. It used to suck engine oil out of the dipstick tube, to save draining it. You can buy them from certain motor trade counters. Very handy bit of kit. You had to run the engine to temperature first, so that the oil was hot and thin. Left a very negligible amount of oil in the sump but soon got mixed up with the new stuff. Then it was just a case of removing the oil filter. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

5W30 or 40 (global warming and all that) is ok for the UK. Thumbs Up

Oil filter is accessible, but might be a bit tight. Helps if you have a garage lift, but not that difficult getting under the car.

I guess that's where air suspension comes in handy, just crank it up to off road height and crawl underneath! Discovery 4 HSE

Guys

Might want to consider a Pela 6000 pump, this lets you suck the old oil out of the engine without spilling and without messing about under the car. Can buy it for about £35 on ebay.
