Reverse Light Removal

Noticed my o/s reverse light bulb was out. I have tried to undo the screw on the top of the unit, but someone has stripped the cross headed screw. I eventually got some purchase on it but the screw is just turning in the hole.Took off the interior trim panel, but there is no access to the screw mounting point, any ideas? Thought about trying to drill it out, but if the screw just keeps on turning like it isn't on a thread, what next? Any thoughts/ ideas greatly appreciated. I have looked through all 15 pages on the maintenance section but can't find anything on this.

the clips that the screw goes into rust ,unclip or fall off into the tailgate...mine did this and i stuck a very small screwdriver into the hole to 'hold' the clip whilst i turned the screw ..
