Front & Rear Discs & Pads Change

Hi there, bought new discs and pads for the RR because I had a Vehicle Health Check done at Land Rover and I'm to tight to pay for them to do it so going to do it myself, I have change Ds & Ps on many cars before but just wondering if anyone could tell me what tools are needed so I can get hold of them during the week to carry out the work at the weekend, if anyone could help would be great

i haven't done this yet as mine had all new on when i bought it, but i should imagine it will be fairly straight forward and a socket set, a screwdriver of suitable size to take screw from disc and maybe a windback tool to make pushing the pistons back a bit easier.

no doubt someone will correct me if my assumptions are wrong!!

when you have done it maybe worth letting us all know for future reference.

i should imagine it will only take about an hour to do. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

pad wear sensor mine was corroded to the old pad and I would always change anyway.

Rear handbrake shoes really should be replaced I did'nt though may end up doing them...

7mm allen key is required to remove the rear caliper from carrier.
I bought a proper long handled one from Halfords and cut it down to fit @ £7
Also a 6mm Hex - 3/8 socket bit to get the disc off the hub a 6mm allen key may get it off but could'nt mine.

16mm socket required to remove carrier.

Certainly one of the easier jobs one can do in terms of Pads, but personally I had great trouble getting my discs off. You should have a big hammer to hand, and of course decent axle stands.

If your handbrake isn't 100% then this is the time to do that too, there is a set of handbrake shoes on eBay for £25 which is a bargain.

Hi Wiggins

I have just done that with mine, you will need an allen key to remove the callipers, thought it was a star socket first, but no (you probably know this) but found it very easy, hope this helps Discovery 3.9

If you're taking off rear discs then remember to back off the handbrake adjusters beforehand. If you have EPB (as opposed to a proper lever) then remember to put in service mode 1st. If that applies for any reason whilst you're working on it, it can remove fingers etc.

Written for a D3 but ostensibly the same as a FFRR.

...and take the opportunity to adjust your handbrake so you dont have to pull it all the way up for it to engage.

Got them all done today, didn't have a 7mm allen key socket small enough so just took off the carrier to get into it, tightened handbrake, gave the brakes a good bleed and car feels like brand new, the grooved and drilled discs look brilliant also with a good lick of paint makes it look 100 times better

Thanks for the help guys Smile
