LR Extended Warranty. Full/Select? Independant?

Hello everyone,

I've had my Vogue just a week now and it's already been back to the dealer for a thermostat housing replacing under the warranty. It got me thinking about extended warranties. Does anyone know if this is a fixed price according to the model? I'm going to ask the dealer, but wanted to be armed with a little bit of information beforehand. I assume it's a comprehensive warranty, the same as the 1st 12 months, but I've also heard about other options which offer reduced cover - 'Select' is it? Just wondering if anybody has experience of these, and roughly what I should expect the costs to be.

Also, does anyone have an independant warranty that they've had to claim on, and if so what sort of experience was it?

Thanks in advance for your responses guys!

Rich.

I looked myself last year. I think the basic one just covers major faults and isn't that much cheaper. The other one is pretty close to the original warranty (I claimed a new steering rack and heated seat base on mine) and well worth it for the peace of mind in my opinion. Thumbs Up My Previous RR's!

i have been looking into this as well!! i was a bit annoyed for starters as there was the remainder of a LR warranty on the car when i bought it, but LR wouldn't let me transfer it to my name even though it was paid for by the original owner... Evil or Very Mad

anyway they wanted £70 odd per month for a new policy, which for what it covers i think is a bit steep.

i used warranty direct on my last car, and when i asked them about the RR they quoted me £50 odd per month, up to £200 per hour main dealer labour charges, covers most things including wear and tear, MOT insurance etc etc.

worth a look i think. push them hard for a good deal, they will budge a bit to get your business. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

I'm with Warranty Direct. £80 per month tho but everything covered incl wear and tear and the sat nav system and no contribution to parts. Used to have:
2005 FFRR 4.4 Vogue - BRC LPG Conversion & Remapped

Now have:
2008 SSRR 3.6 TDV8 - HSE and plenty of toys

Thanks for the responses guys. Does anyone know what the 12 month Landrover full warranty costs as a one-off payment?

I'll definitely have a look at warranty direct, as those prices sound quite good especially if it covers wear & tear items.

Cheers!

When I bought mine, I extended the LR Approved Warranty to 2yrs for £795. Well worth it I think, as it will be 6 yrs old when it ends, so a whole extra year covered by the "Approved" rather than "Select"...

Stu, I had a 53 reg vogue that came with the extended warranty. I was told it is fully transferable provided you have written authority from the previous owner?? I did exactly that and got a letter signed by the last guy confirming the warranty would pass to me. They transferred it no problem and I made a couple of claims afterwards. Sounds like LR have had your pants down to me Shocked My Previous RR's!

i was told that because i had bought it from a dealer and not the individual, it could not be transfered to me.

to be honest i can't be bothered arguing with them, the dealer put 6 months warranty on it, i have had one of the front parking sensors replaced, the drivers headrest repaired as it stopped working and the puddle lamps in the mirrors sorted out already with no fuss by garage i bought it from.

i think i will be going back to warranty direct when the time comes any way. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Excellent, thanks Stu.

With mine being an 07, when my initial 12 months warranty runs out the car will be 5 years old so I guess the only LR option would be 'Select'. The Warranty Direct cover seems to be better value for money, especially if you buy the cover that includes wear and tear.

Thanks for sharing the info everyone, much appreciated. Just need to get it back from the dealer now, start driving it and see if anything else goes wrong!

Rich.

I just took out a warranty with Warranty Direct that covers me for any repairs that are the cause of a breakdown and recovery by a contracted recovery firm. i.e. if the gearbox fails and I have to get recovered WD will pay for the repairs - they will only cover me for 50% of the parts as my car has done over 100k.

£115 Very Happy

Mine came with a 6 month dealer warranty from Warrantywise. When it expired they phoned and asked "Did I want a 6 month renewal @ £175.00 or the special offer of 12 months at £186.00?" DOH! Laughing
Fantastic company to deal with. Claimed for a new radiator, suspension pump and steering column - well it is a FFRR - no excess either.
The only things not covered for that are: Airbags and navigation. 5.0 supercharged autobiography
