Hi all....

Not being a mechanically minded person I was aware that when I started the car and put into gear there was a metallic knock which sounded like it was coming from the front left wheel, took into local 4x4 specialist and the had a look quickly and tightened everything up and we tried again but the noise remained... So booked in for a more thorough investigation as they thought perhaps a Diff mount bush or something.. Left the car and it was fine apart from the small metallic noise and when they called later they could not get the car to even go into gear (I trust these guys and they look after the vehicle).... they now suspect the gearbox is knackered

Car is 2002 4.4 with 65k on the clock.....

Is there anything else that might be causing this or do I have to brace for the bill they have guided me on !!!

Any helpful suggestions would be gratefully received...

Spray the Gearbox Linkage under the car next to the Gearbox with WD40.....

does the gear selector move? Can any gears be selected through moving the lever to manual?

Just give the linkage mechanism a spray just in case - this action solves many gearbox related problems....
