Turbo

Hi all

Last few weeks I have noticed a faint hiss when I lift my foot off the accelarator. Now I am pretty sure this is the turbo but just alittle baffled why I have only noticed it recently. First or all do people think it is the turbo I can here, and secondly should I be concerned.
There is a chance I am completly wrong about it being the turbo and for that I will Embarassed in advance.

dont know why it does it ,maybe something needs cleaning out....hopefully someone more knowledgeable will let us know.. ..............................

I'm pretty sure I got the same on my old 1.9TDi audi, so it may just be a turbo diesel thing. The only thing thats got me thinking is I have only noticed it since egr blanking kit was fitted Question Question FFRR TD6 HSE

The reason you get a feint hiss is because when you lift off the throttle the boost in the inlet has to be 'dumped' otherwise the turbo itself would stall when the throttle is closed due to a pressure build up in the inlet manifold between the turbo and the throttle plate.

By comparison with your local boy racers who have external dump valves fitted and make a massive hiss when they lift off, your boost is being recirculated back into the non pressurised (inlet) side of the turbo and this is why it is only a feint hiss.

Worth checking the recirculation part of the circuit hasn't become disconnected if you think it has got louder. It's only an air pipe after all and if it has become disconnected or the pipe is split you're effectively venting to atmosphere which would make it louder.

I'll take a look, any idea where I'll find it? Also, if it is venting incorrectly would it have any impact on the cars economy/performance? FFRR TD6 HSE

Afraid I'm not familiar with the layout of that engine - I have a V8 petrol.

Don't think it would impact performance or economy.
