Stan - it's amazing but people still fall for these scams

saw something on the evening news last week about scams sent by post saying you'd won a car/lottery etc and have to send a claimants fee

they interviewed an elderly lady who was obviously intelligent (or maybe not?) but she had fallen for multiple versions of these scams

they play on the basic human emotion of greed - thinking you are getting something for nothing or at the most very little

my father taught me at a very early age that there is no such thing as a 'free lunch'!

I've just received one by snail mail from Mount Pleasant London, purporting to be from a Chinese National and requesting me to keep all details of it confidential............. I'll scan it and post it later! Just watch out for one Chu Woo - they are impoverished too only having $5million to put into my bank account, not worth giving them my bank details for me to then buy property in China which they can convert for me into $60 milions...................... A Nigerian anti-corruption agency GIVING money away to foreigners in a country where tens of millions of people can hardly make a living................... The people responding to this are criminally stupid !!

Sad though that this is how Nigeria gets into the news, together with the recent terror attacks. Especially sad since the Nigeria I know is a lovely country to live in, with absolutely amazing people. Of course there are plenty bad apples here as well as in every other country in the world.

I just wish these scammers would apply their intellect and energy to helping this country to get back on their feet, enough to do, enough money to do it, just in a lot of "wrong" pockets.......... 2006 Range Rover Supercharged, Zambezi silver, black laquer/jet interior and all options.

I agree Nigeria can be a great place to live, but it has suffered from corruption for many years and scamming is just a 'natural' evolution. I remember the concrete fiasco, never feeling safe in Lagos/Ikeja between sunset-sunrise, extraordinary amount of 'dash' that everyone expected. Now up on the hausa plateau that was a different story. I asssume that guiness are still Ikeja oddly enough next door to the berger paint factory!. Many be it's improved since the power has moved to abuja.

Many years ago I worked in a company where a not very intelligent 'meat head' got one of these emails and responded, and kept responding. Shocked

The Police and Interpol intervened when it started getting serious! He really thought he was going to be given hundreds of thousands of pounds for nothing.

In my view, this is a great case of survival of the fittest and if they are stupid enough to send personal details, bank details, passport details etc, then they deserve everything they get!

It's a bit like when I've been on holiday, especially in the Caribbean, the waiters try and make friends with you and say how they want to come over to the UK, can they have your address etc, and I know from some people that they ACTUALLY turn up on their doorstep looking for somewhere to crash!
