Brake howl

My 5 month old FF has had an intermitent brake howl from new, not the usual squeel, the noise made when you blow across the top of a bottle, but on an industrial scale.
It went in on Friday and they have schamfered the pads.

This may be the cure on a 5 year old Skoda from dodgy Dave but is it realy acceptable on a £70k car.
Oh they also "valetted" it and it now reaks of a cheap whores aftershave.

You must have really dodgy whores down there if they wear "aftershave"!!! I hope you meant perfume.... The song Lola springs to mind.. Rolling with laughter Previously..

On a serious note... It looks like you have 40% less brake pad than you should have. They will wear out faster, overheat quicker and not stop you as quickly as a full face pad.. Not a good fix I would say. Previously..

^^^^ I agree.
Whilst chamfering the leading edges of pads can reduce brake squeel, I have never seen then done to that extent. I would definitely be concerned.

Looks all too clean and shiny to me (just jealous Wink)

I presume this mod didn't cost you anything? If it did, I would go back and ask for some new pads on safety grounds.

A chamfer would only need to be @ 1/4" off the leading edge as a proof of concept.

Anyway, you didn't say if it fixed the problem, or if you felt your braking efficiency improved or declined? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

2006 Range Rover Autobiography Supercharged Zambezi Silver

I've seen a service bulletin on the Topix website for this complaint - the bulletins states that the pads need to be replaced with the revised part number to cure the noise issue.

Sorry that I don't have a copy - I read it the other night when I was looking on the site for some info.... Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....
