[SOLVED] Help - Shorted Ignition Live in Boot! - No Radio?

Damn - with key at position 1 I accidentally shorted the ignition feed in the boot. This has blown something as the live feed is dead and the radio won't come on any more (can't switch to it and no sound). The radio was on when I did it and the sound went off and the OBC switched to the main menu. TV works but no sound.

Any advice? (other than stay away from car electrics in the dark!) .

Ouch!

maybe stupid question, fuses?

Have you d/c the battery for a while to give frightened ECUs a chance to breathe?

Sorry if obvious, hope you get it sorted. Thumbs Up

Well I went for fuses, none seemed to be blown in the back so had a look up front. Pulled no 8 (Radio) but car complained with a loud continuous beep which made me jump and I dropped the fuse down the gap! (lol) Luckily spare fuse to hand. So it wasn't that one Laughing Was raining so gave up and came in by the fire. .

All sound gone, radio won't switch on at the MFD, Mode button does nothing, everything else seems to work, red light on on the SatNav in the boot?

The ignition live is the purple/white wire going to the big black connector in the boot (daveo's photo Wink)

I'll try a battery disconnect and see what gives....

You could try removing the purple/white wire and running another fused live to the terminal and see what happens Thumbs Up

It's OK, crisis over Smile

It was fuse 8 up the front (Radio)

Can be confusing though, as the car has an additional theft deterrent on this fuse (which other ones I wonder), so if you pull it when the battery is connected (whether broken or not) it sets off the alarm continuous beep, not beep-beep-beep, making you think it isn't the fuse. So be warned!

I disconnected the battery and checked the fuse which was blown. replaced fuse, reconnected battery, lock to lock radio on! (Mick would be proud!!)

Sorry, was doing this in the dark (as in no light) Thud .

Nice one Joe. Glad it's sorted for a 20p fuse rather than a ££££ Electronic doohickey.

By heck, that's clever.

How does it know you have removed a blown fuse, unless there is a set of contacts that actually detects the presence of the fuse.

Mysterious stuff, this electrickery!

Ah there's a thing; perhaps if you see someone wearing that you can sling a handful of gravel at them?

Nice one Joe.
