You have DSP setup don't you? Nothing to worry about then, as they are designed for better sound. I have the dsp option in my m5, and I've been running the stage 2 for some time. I wasn't completely happy with the first amp upgrade, although better than the stock bm54 output.

Now it's just pure quality output. Inl comparison, if the original bm54 is around 25watts, the amp upgrade was around 45 watts, the new one is around 50 Rms watts.

If you have stock system, then that's perfectly fine. In waiting on a few people to let me know what it's like. Currently on my m3 I have I'm in the process of upgrading the speakers. Nothing major and since no additional amps are required, the speakers only cost me around £300. All I can say is, so far I'm loving it and I haven't even finished setting it up properly.

Work in progress is here http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showthread.php?t=95101 barisahan@gmail.com

Excellent. Yes, I have the dsp system in, stock other than your original bm54 amp upgrade.

I did look to try and fit the speakers from the facelift cars which have touchscreen, but I couldn't find a set for sale anywhere, as the stock system in those is more powerful so I imagined the speakers would more easily handle the increased wattage.

From your experience then, the stock speakers may not be the weak link here....

I have a nice LINN hifi in the house, but don't get as much time to listen to it as I'd like, so any improvement in the rangie is fine by me.

I'll have a read up in the link above.

Keep us posted.

Inevitably, the stock speakers have a limit.

To compare my m3 (4 x aftermarket speakers) and m5 (DSP) system, the M3 quality is better. The M5 can get louder, due to having the DSP, sending out the correct signals to the speakers, and the fact that it has subs for bass, which takes most the stress off the speakers.

However, today, I got some music in FLAC format, which has kind of made things a little bit more interesting. As it may also be a case of using better quality music. Currently, I have any old Mp3 tracks in the M5. I need to test it with that format, to truly see the difference. The player I downloaded on my mobile, which plays this type of format, has also got an equalizer, which helps a lot with cars without one, or even more with the DSP? Need to check this, when I get some time.

I do think, its going to come down to playing music from the mobile, as it has apps to play any type of format. Definitely going to look into changing the speakers, as there is so much power behind it now.

My ears are ringing, from listening and comparing so much, but I do think the radio sounds much better now, which is a surprise. Not 100% sure, as I rarely listen to it, usually have Disney princess sound track playing Rolling with laughter barisahan@gmail.com

Some of my channels are dropping out (well, the base takes over, but normally I can get them back twiddling the volume) would this upgrade sort that out?

Cheers
Steve

When the dsp is involved, it could be either. When you say the bass stays, is the noise from the speakers or the sub?

Do check the connections on the dsp, as they tend to corrode. Depends how often it happens. Does it happen with car movement, or also when stationary? barisahan@gmail.com

Hey cleughy,

Sounds identical to the issue I have with mine. A quick off and on again sorts it for me but it happens again on the next bump in the road. On further inspection it looks lik ethere is some corrosion f the pins on the BM54 unit.

Baris - We spoke last week about mine and both DSP and BM54 are in the post today and should be with you tomorrow.

Thanks
