Conversion to RHD

Does anyone know what is required to convert a LHD FFRR to a RHD FFRR and whether it is worth the effort / money. We are potentially moving to New Zealand in a few years time and I may want to take the FFRR (either the current or a newer one) to NZ. It would be handy if it was a RHD when in NZ but if it is too much to do then alternative is selling the one I have here and buying a nice TDV8 somewhere (not NZ as they are ridiculously expensive there). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

As above, it is possible but there is a lot of money involved...
If your moving to NZ, buy 2 TDV8's if you can afford it and then sell one when you get out there as the profit could be well worth it Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Compared to driving here, all road users in Europe are perfect gentlepeople Smile Stan. here you can expect anything and I really mean anything. Keeps you sharp though.

Kingpleb, I like your thinking, I will contact Gary to get me two TDV8s when I move (and hoping my wife does not want to use the second one of course Smile). Although I may still go for LPG Supercharged after all as that is still quite cheap in NZ, running a diesel in NZ is not that cheap.

Anyway, thanks for the RHD conversion Stan, I was afraid of that when I had a quick look around just the cabin let alone under the hood !!. Anyway it is still some years away so till then I will keep enjoying the S/C !!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I agree the cost to switch it across would be very expensive. Not sure if the NZ tax is the same as in Oz but the cost of buying a new or used L322 there is huge.

One of my employees is contemplating the idea of buying a used RR in the UK and shipping it to his parents in Perth (he is here with a work permit), after 1 year he can sell it without the huge tax burden. From what he has been researching it would net a 20-40% profit. Tom

I recall a guy a while back on another forum moved to NZ and used one of those massive containers and shipped a few cars over that he had owned for a while and netted a tidy sum on them.

If you can afford some good FFRR's then it may be worth it, maybe mix in a SC and TDV8 and what ever you decide as your keeper in a big container too, or do a nice overland trip on the way there Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Mmmmm, if I plan it right I can fill two or three containers (40 feet) with FFRRs before I leave and I will have mine all paid for. Import duty on cars does not exist in NZ by the looks of it, you only pay GST on the value of the car. Maybe prices seem due to the exchange rate or just in comparison to other cars. Anyway, I will definitely look into bringing some over to the Islands Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Just hire an old merchant ship for the move instead of containers by the sounds of it Smile

Dont forget you'll need a big house/garden to store them in until you can sell them!! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Some people do do it but its only viable if your taking cars you OWN before you emigrate.

You can't just import them as the tax's are silly.

But as long as you own the car/cars for at least 12months before you move over then its all good.

I imagine where Ebajema is getting documents that 'could' say the car was owned for 12months before he left shouldn't be too hard either Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Oz and NZ have a punitive Luxury Car Tax that gets applied to the sale of every new 'luxury' car; be it an Audi, BMW, Jaguar, LR, Mercedes... etc.

It cascades to the secondhand prices, too. I was amazed how expensive 'premium' models are out there, but many never see salted roads and lead more pampered lives. The '93 V8 D1 I bought out there cost me £6,000 with 100,000 miles on the clock, but was almost as-new. Factory chassis paint still there, for instance. No rust of any kind anywhere.

The tax is a substantial add-on and one of the reasons why Toyotas are plentiful out there. It also promotes the use of Aus-built Fords and Holdens.

If you get a chance, try to pick up a copy of Unique Cars. It's an Aussie petrolhead nirvana magazine a bit like Octane here.

Plenty of gorgeous colour adverts from everything from rust-free V8 D1's and FFRR's to old Falcons, F-series pickups, Euro stuff etc. Some excellent writing in there, too. I bought it regularly when living out there and still have a few copies.

I think the idea of importing a few RHD TDV8's is a canny one, but agree the obstacles needed to achieve it are challenging.

Never went to NZ, but I hear it's a stunning place. Si. <This is my name.
