Front Door Exterior Window Surround

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to remove the front door exterior window surround ?

The matt black 3 sided frame thing on the outside of the windows ?

My front passenger side has rust coming through it and is looking tattty compared to the rest of the car.

I've had a look on RAVE, and can only see instructions for the inside trim.........

Thanks
Mark

I'm not sure how this surround is removed on the L322 but on Discovery models you need to remove the door card as well as the inner door protection cover. The door top can then be unbolted & removed with an upwards movement.
To stop the corrosion happening again I always use Morrisons (the supermarket) own brand shoe wax shine!
Do not use the scuff cover but the shoe shine wax does exactly what it says on the box It blackens shines & adds wax with the usual benefits of protecting against rust. I've been using this stuff on the blackwork of all my cars for years including the tyre walls (but NOT the tread) & people often ask me what I use to get such a good finish. It lasts on average for about 6 months but the more you apply the deeper the shine.
Try it, it certainly works for me...
Robert.

Many thanks Robert.

I think the L322 doors are stamped as a single piece, and the bits fastened on - probably using Voodoo !

Your Disco looks very tidy. I put some of those wheels on my Range Rover Classic, a few years ago.

I shall purloin some shoe wax from Morrisins, and at least do the rest of the trim that is good.

May finish up going to the dealers to try and find out how the trim comes off.

Thanks again.

once you order the new trim is becomes obvious how its held on, i changed mine a few months ago and recall it was quite simple. the door mirror needs to come off for a start then undo the window, the rubber that runs around the outside of the door is held into the trim your going to replace so need to come off aswel to reveal some screws, cant remember the exact way i did it but there no need to worry about it, i used wax oil under the new trim and under the rubber to protect it in future. its worth ordering the trim that goes up the back edge of the door on the outside aswell, mine was slightly corroded like the front section.

+1, not a hard job, quite satisfying though i recall... A series of small screws and rubber covers, but quite easy to do if your not too ham fisted with it...

Many thanks.

I shall have to follow RAVE for stripping down the inside of the door, ie door card off and the plastic inside trim with the tweeter on and go from there then.

Thanks again.
