Rear driveshaft hub nut

Been looking at some of the jobs I need to do come the summer, one of being to redo the rear bushes.

I had wheel off this afternoon and looking at the hub nut, it looks like a pile of rust. Scraped at it with a screwdriver to see if I can see the nut teeth and I can't, I'm thinking this might be a bit of an issue !

Anyone one the job recently with a well rusty setup and got any tips.

I'm quite used to these sorts of jobs, so the concept of dong the bushes etc doesn't daunt me, just looking for any tips. V8 or else ...

I'm looking to do the same, my hub nut is a nugget of rust too.

Apart from attacking it with air ratchet and socket, no idea.
It looks like it may crumble the first time any torque is applied to it, hopefully it'll just fall apart... (wishful thinking)

Rust nugget .... That's sums it up for me too.

I have a smaller set of the sockets that have teeth on them that bite into the nut when you undo it, I'm wondering if I can get larger ones and hammer it on and basically rip into it to get it undone.

I'm dreading it a bit the more I think about it.

The brake lines look gubbed as well ... Thinking about making Goodrich hoses to run from the caliper to the point the pipes meet the main body ... Would be better than the multiple joins there is at the moment running over the arms. V8 or else ...

I know the sockets you're on about, "Urwin" I think they're called, 21mm seems to ring a bell on maximum size.
If all else fails you may have to trash the driveshaft and grind/hack/butcher the nut off.

I think I'll have to sort rear bushes out soon, as I'm getting a knock from the left rear, when ever I turn left. I noticed that poly bushes are available for the rear, maybe a viable option.

The polybushes look like inners only. it's the outers I'm needing to do.

Any one know the size of the nut ? V8 or else ...

Yep, mine looked like a rust nugget too, but I reckon with a clean up a good dosing of WD40/easing oil, the right socket and a nice long breaker bar, it should move.

Reckon I need to replace all my rear bushes, significant outer tyre wear starting to show after just a year from new Grabbers, so will welcome a nice picture howto of all the dismantling and refitting Wink .

Noticed my tyres are wearing on the inside, so looks like it wont be long before I'm changing bushes on the rear.

I'd give it a wallop with a hammer as well to unlock the rust lock that will have been created and also try a little jet on it then an ice cube on the threaded driveshaft part to keep the nut a bit warmer and thus a little oversized and easier to get off if your quick Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

You don't need to touch the hub nut when changing the rear bushes
