TPMS valve stem snapped

So I had the unfortunate experience of a TMPS valve stem snapping today which gave me a chance to learn how much fun it is to change a FFRR tyre on your own while wearing a suit! Do I have to get a new TPMS unit from the stealer or can it just have a new stem done at a tyre place? It's only sheared off about 8mm, but obviously this bit holds the valve so I lost all the air, but I am hoping this means the TPMS unit is safe?

No - all one piece (been there - done that)...

...they are available off the fleabay (cheaper than LR dealer)

Edit ... Would recommend you get all 4 valves replaced Whistle

Cheers delamo! Do they need a stealer to re-code them to the car? Or is it a fit and drive for a bit thing?

It happened after putting air in. As I pulled the hose away the valve was in the air hose and flew off somewhere.

metal valves are always going to be prone to corrosion, best stick rubber ones in even if it means loosing the tpms .. ... - .- -.

So it appears they are £61 a corner fitted from a main stealer. Unfortunately this time I am going to have to accept as my spare appears to be lacking any balancing weights and made my 45 mile commute to work a bit wobbly.

Sounds like you got a deal from the LR dealer ... when I broke mine the dealer quoted more than that per corner just for the part (not fitted)... I know the ones I found on the eBay (genuine LR/Jaguar part) were approx 3/4 the price of what dealer quoted and delivered well within 24hours, but - I have noticed (since my problem) that others on here have managed to source them much cheaper still.

Once fitted (by local tyre fitter) they synced themselves to the car (no need to be programmed) by the time I got back home.

Mine broke because I thought one day it were a great idea to fit shiny metal valve dust caps - turns out - these little f**kers welded themselves to the tpms valve stem within weeks ... went to check pressures one day and couldn't remove caps using fingers - thought I'd gently used some pliers and PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTT! Censored ... x4

Stan does make a very good point 'bout using standard rubber/brass valves (if you can live with the warning light being on) because even brand new tpms valves appear they are manufactured from a very light (weak) alloy of one kind or another and don't look like they would cope too well with elements or road salt etc. and very likely could start to corrode almost immediatly?

Good luck sorting yours out T A S P

All sorted now. Took them a bit longer than quoted to fit, but they stuck to their price. Think it was £61.26 and I even got a couple of free coffees (so saved a fiver there!). Also knowing that I can get good service from a dealer I drive past on the way to and from work is a nice feeling too.

@delamo, i was led to believe that if there are no tpms valves fitted then the fullfat wont pick up a signal and hence no warning lights.. ... - .- -.

Stan, if you fit non TPMS valved wheels, the control unit throws up errors. I know this because I've just swapped my (TPMS) valved wheels for non TPMS ones and the tyre warning light flashes for a while, then stays on permanently. It;s also accompanied by the "check all tyre pressures" message.

Roll on the IIDTool s/w update! Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

^^^ You could be right Stan - I just assumed the light would show (thought I read on here somewhere - that someone had a spare set of off-road wheels/tyres without the tpms - and when fitted the light came on and stayed on until original wheels were replaced)

Glad you got them sorted T A S P - couldn't agree more with the local dealer satisfaction feeling ... bet you can't wait for the next think to go wrong now? Wink

Actually I was eyeing up a Mini in the next door garage as they had quite nice staff there. I reckon I would be in there every week with something broken Thumbs Up
