Td6 - High Pressure Fuel Pump

What do we know about the high pressure fuel pump in relation to leaking ?

About a week ago, I took my car to the local specialist to fix a diesel leak.

They said that the high pressure fuel pump on the passenger side of the engine was damp.

They checked the pipes for cracking etc and reattached them to the pump and told me to run it for a week or so to see if the diesel smell stops.

Well I've only done about 15 miles since then, which may not be enough of a run to burn off what diesel is still there, but I can still smell a strong diesel smell under the bonnet. Not as bad as before, but still there.

Probably need to have a good run, but if its the fuel pump, they are pretty expensive I believe.........

Anyone else had similar symptoms ?

Thanks

Take out a second mortgage for the pump Shocked

They are usually pretty robust and not a lot of problems with them , most likely cause will have been a leaking joint or pipe. It may take a couple of longer runs to burn the smell off the engine block

Thanks.

That was what I was hoping, but the smell is pretty strong after I turn the engine off, but then I suppose it will be for a while.

I got 12 months warranty (for what its worth) when I got the car last November.

I trust the part will be covered if needs be, as its not a consumable item..........

Will give it a good run and see if its any better. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

There is plenty access around the pump so might be worth buying a can of Gunk and giving it a wash down, don't be tempted to use a pressure wash in there though. You could also spray it with WD40 and use a paint brush to loosen the crud, then wipe it clean with a rag
