Engine fault amber light

My 2007 TDV8 has just thrown up an amber light which turns out to mean engine fault, t has done this before and then just cleared the next day. The engine is running great and I have checked the usual oils , filters etc it was serviced 6000 miles ago.
I only reason I doubt the warning light stems from my days of a P38 which used to show warning lights on a regular basis that meant nothing.
Is there some thing I can check for or do I have to visit the dreaded RR computer?
I have just had my injector over flow system replaced.

My 2003 throw up a Engine Light, and cleared in a couple of days....

Turned out to be one of the Lambda sensors throwing a wobbly by going 'out of range' possibly caused by a small amount of unburnt fuel in the exhaust burning off, as it happened approaching a set of lights, I was braking and the engine hiccuped a little....

Getting a code read is the first step.

Maybe investing in a Diagnostic tool would be a wise purchase....

Not sure what covers the 2007 model, as the All comms is only upto 2005, but I am sure the Bearmach or the IID Tool may help...

Yes it costs up front, but no more that 2-3 trips to local dealer..!!
