Are you going to disect it? if somethings sticking how clean is the tank as if its just sucked some gunk thru that could have stuck in it and the tap has dislodged it or repaired a loose connection??

I may dissect just to see what is inside. Most likely the pump is worn as it looks to be the original Pierburg BMW part

Yes there will be fuel drips out of the lines. Yes the said fuel will run down your arm onto your clothing, the floor/driveway and make you smell like an HGV mechanic |

Clean it out using petrol... Works for cleaning diesel off/out of most things... Craig |

The pump is a common failure on the TD6, so at 124k miles I think it makes sense to replace |

Ah, memories of the SU electric fuel pump on my 1965 mini traveller. Often amused my passengers when I had to jump out, hit under the rear of the car with a hammer, jump back in and start up and away

Dissected the pump tonight, there are two filters inside, one at each end, no dirt was present in any of the filters. I would hazard a guess that the pump had run its course and the lifespan just about expired but I will have a closer look tomorrow and will post up some pictures. |

As suspected there really isn't much to see and certainly nothing that looks to cause the pump to stop. I can only guess that the electric motor has reached the end of its life.

I've now stripped the motor right down, the commutator is worn out and the brushes are very low so this is the problem with the pump when it stops working
