AT or MT tyres

I currently have standard road tyres on the Rangie but want to change these for All Terrain or Mud Terrain at some point. This is mainly due to the roads here during the winter and the tracks that I sometimes drive to access lochs for fishing.

I currently have 255/55 R19's on there, I've had a look around on the net and the only tyres I could find in that size with any sort of aggressive tread were Goodyear Wrangler MT/R and the General Grabber AT.

I'm favoring the Grabber AT at the moment but has anyone used any others?
If anyone has used the Grabber AT, what is it like and is it any good?

Cheers in advance for any comments. Thumbs Up

I had the new Grabber AT's for last winter and was amazed at the breath of ability these tyres have much better than Goodridge AT's , I always felt that as good as MT's are the FFRR has too much on road performance for those comedy wet road + MT tyre moments Shocked 2008 MY Supercharged

I had a set of Grabber MT's on a 300 Disco and they were fine on wet roads, and great off road.
Tacoma MT's, on the other hand, were just dammed dangerous, no grip at all and even locked up when slowing for junctions at less then 20mph! Rolling Eyes

The Grabber AT would suit my needs but I'd be happy to hear about other brands in the same size as they seem hard to find.

I have been looking at grabber ATs and am caught between them and Toyo Open countrys and other similar more road type tyres

Very happy with my Grabber AT2s on my 18" rims, but to be honest have done most of my off road work on the road Nexens that came with the car and had no trouble at all getting about. I understand LR demo the FFRR on road tyres just to show how good it is off road.

FFRR does look good with Grabbers on though Smile

I have a set of Grabber ATs on mine and find them are great tyre especially on the roads around here that are often covered in standing water and they were good in the limited amount of snow we had last winter. Joe 90 arte yours not the AT2s which is the older tyre? 2010 3.6TDV8 Stornoway Grey/ Black interior - gone

The Grabber AT2 is what I was originally looking at but they don't seem make them in a 19". They do have a good reputation though.

AT2's have gone now apart for any remaining stock but believe me the new AT is better , I ran 19"s last year but now I'm considering trying 20" on my spare set of Autobiography rims . 2008 MY Supercharged

I've been running MTRs for nearly 12 months, had no issues in the wet on the road, great off road. Noisy and reduced MPG yes, but they work for me.

Considering these next. Supposedly less road noise.

The Wrangler DuraTrac's look good but at over £200 a tyre they're a bit too much for my needs.
I've had a look at the Grabber AT's on a Defender at work and they seem to be what I'm looking for so I'll go for them in the future I think.

Thanks for all the input. Thumbs Up

General Grabber have just started making the AT in 19" sizes. I have a set fitted to mine & have spent the whole day in a very muddy field with torrents of rain coming down & the car never flinched! Very Happy
