CHECK COOLANT LEVEL

Hi, i opened the bonnet on my 4.4 vogue the other day and seen some coolant coming spraying out of a pipe. Chopped the pipe and rejoined it, no more leaks, however, every time i start the car or turn it off it says CHECK COOLANT LEVEL, level is fine, have bled the system and still no different!

any ideas?

Car is a 2004 L322 4.4

Thanks

I think you also get this message if the antifreeze mixture is too weak. Did you top up with water or water / antifreeze mixed?

Shocked That's interesting.... So there is some sort of chemical sensor that checks the level of antifreeze to water? Previously..

Yes, I believe it checks the specific gravity of the coolant. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

yep what mike said. the sensor is in the bottom of the tank in one of the 4 chambers. It works on a 50/50mix if there is to much water you get the check coolant bong and the same for if you put to much coolant in. You can buy a syringe type thing from halfords that uses coluored balls to help get your mix right. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

As Mike and Rob have said, the mixture is checked in much the same way as an external antifreeze tester through a float that is calibrated to check the specific gravity. This is to avoid someone performing a repair like Winslo, forgetting about it, and ending up with a popped block next winter.

I would def not rely on this to 100%, though. Check your anti-freeze (or replace it with a proper mixture of the SAME TYPE - did you add the same type of of now? If you already mixed types (color) then flush and replace) before it gets cold.
