Wife Needs another car

My Wife's company lease Car has gone back, as she commutes to London everyday it was costing a fortune to run & high tax on her income so it made sense not to renew it & it sit on the drive going nowhere Laughing

So I don't want to spend to much as again it will sit on the drive, but it must be a good car and a good size as she takes our son ski training every week & so boot size is really important.

So what can I get for £5 to 7k, any suggestions I id look at RRS petrol and saw one for £5k on gumtree but it was so cheap its got to be nicked LOL Whistle

I just can't think what to buy & she is useless at deciding any suggestions welcome Bow down Mutt

Merc estates

Hi Mutley, I saw you wave at me whilst you were jogging at the last minute mate Thumbs Up

Those c or e class estates are great value for money, go well and are surprisingly frugal.

My mate has had both a Audi A6 and the VW passat estate and loves them too. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie

Hi Daz, thats ok no worries Twisted Evil

Yes I need to sort her another car but there is such a huge difference in pricing with dealers whether direct or non franchise, I like the 3 series BM estate so I thought a 30 litre petrol would be good value, but some are Starship mileage and others are IMOP really over priced so its a bit difficult to decide on who is chancing there arm Rolling Eyes

I like the Mercs to I will mention them to the wife, really don't want to spend any more than 7k as I can't justify it Laughing Mutt

We're big fans of the E-Class estate, but your budget would also get you nice models of the V70, A6 and 5-Series depending on how old you wish to go.

An S6 Estate is within budget and that would be very tempting indeed for the short mileages I imagine your wife will do. Handy when the weather gets bad, too. And they sound lovely. Si. <This is my name.

You will get a pretty recent French estate unit for that price, maybe even a v6 petrol as most are diesel.
For my money a C5 III estate exclusive would have it or a C6??

A laguna as well could be good and again petrols are strong engines and smooth as well...

The pugs are more sporty I feel so less cruising machines but point and shoot.

Best thing is take a selection locally and spend a weekend with the mrs driving them without the salesPERSON in the car as well. At the end of the day if she choses the car as she likes it it will be less Aggro for you in the long run Wink FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks guys, I have just got to convince the wife now to get on with it Rolling Eyes she can't make her mind up although she said she wants satnav built in after the one on the dash flew off & hit our son on the ankle last Saturday, (this happened because she missed the turn Rolling Eyes Whistle )

I thinks he should get a Rav, or Xtrail sort of thing as they seem cheap & often a really good spec Thumbs Up

Cheers Mutt

How about an X-350 XJ-6?
You could always fold the rear seats away if the boot is too small - I would avoid the V70 though!

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

Skoda Octavia VRS Diesel estate.

Fast
practical as the boot is huge
comfy
well made (honestly they are)
sat nav in dash
frugal
dont lose a whole heap of value quickly
cheap to service
cheap to insure

Before you go skoda bashing, I have had a petrol one now for 4 years, its been serviced 2 times in that time, variable service, nothing has gone wrong, nothing has dropped off, runs sweet as a nut, and swmbo drives it into things all of the time so proven to be robust. Its been all over the continent, many times, never missed a beat. and when clean and shiny looks pretty good, for a 5k car that is. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
