I guess so yes but having now seen an EGR valve post terraclean I think its probably better to go straight for EGR replacement. They are better but far from clean of carbon deposits.

none my friend - just thinking pre-emptive. seems a cheap thing to do but sometimes doing something you think is simple is not alway the case.

suppose its the same as redex additives - you just need someone to say - yep its ok to do that!. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

The 4.4 does NOT suffer with the EGR issues the 3.6 did though Surprised

I'm a bit new to the subject of EGR but am trying to read up as I investigate the TDV8 turbo failure subject...

...so a couple of quick questions please:

1. what are the symptoms of EGR failure? Can failure damage anything else in the engine?
2. Can the EGRs be removed and blanked on the TDV8? Anyone done it?
3. If removed, would the car struggle to meet UK MOT emissions tests?

I can only comment about the failure to my car - the EGR valves used to make a squeaking noise after switch off (the indy told me that was the source of the squeak) - I thought this was standard, however the new valves do not make this noise, so perhaps that was an indication of failure.

I had no smoke from exhaust, no other symptoms, first thing I knew about it was a warning on the dash. Codes read and under advice from the Forum I took directly to dealer who diagnosed both sides needed replacement.

I used Redex regularly and at services the indy used Forte system cleaner - neither seems to have helped.

So having read the thread, and especially Gaz's step by step guide, am I right in thinking that it is best to leave the TDV8 4.4 alone, unless there are symptoms of EGR problems, rather than doing this as a pre-emptive measure? Even then, as the TDV8 has two air boxes/ filters, would it be necessary to remove both to squirt the stuff in both sides? 2011 Vogue TDV8 4.4

the EGR cleaner spray seemed to make a difference on my Jaguar. I can't see it curing a blocked one, but giving it a dose of it every service should help stop the gunk building up.(redex and other products that go in the fuel wont clean the air inlet)

It's basically just air intake cleaner, like you'd use on a carb. It breaks down the black snot that builds up in there when the carbon mixes with crank case vapours. On most turbo diesel cars you'll find half the inject tract clogged with it.

One problem the Jaguars used to suffer was the gasses leaking into the electronics on the EGR valve and killing it that way. On the subject of electronic EGR valves, it's normally not possible to completely blank them off without modifying the engine management software. As the computer detects the plate as a blockage and puts the check engine lamp on, you still get the benefits of the blank, but the car wont pass an MOT with the engine light on. So you have to tell the computer to ignore the EGR fault.
