Aquaplaning

My FFRR is horrendous for it. It is almost dangerous going out in the wet. I think my front tyres are ok for tread depth, the edges are a bit worn now, but I think the problem is age related as in the compound is just too old. I knew I would be replacing them this winter.
I have just spent the last 30 minutes reading posts about Nexens. They seem to be good value for all round use.
Can anyone tell me specifically if they get problems with aquaplaning using Nexens and am I mad buying them!

Cheers. Previously..

I have no issues with the Nexens although I seldom reach speeds that would pose any aquaplaning risks. All the feedback I read on the Nexens (before I bought them) is good, not brilliant but definitely not bad for wet weather. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Why not just get the Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtremes ?

They are pretty cheap for the quality and can be used year round...

Cheers folks. I could be wrong, but would a winter tyre be noisier than a normal tyre? Previously..

Gaz.. Do the edges wear any worse than michelins? Just been and checked mine. They feel like hard smooth plastic at the front Shocked . Winter tyres do sound appealing I must say. Previously..

No they wear evenly and are quite a soft compound but wear very well. They always feel "Grippy" whatever the conditions....

I've always wondered....regardless of the car I am in, if I hit a puddle at speed then it all goes a bit Pete Tong, yet I see everyone else ploughing through the same and deeper puddles with impunity. I do try to avoid the puddles, and not just for this reason (water getting into the wrong places etc) if I can but it doesn't seem to bother other drivers. Am I missing something?

FWIW either Nexens and Scorpions on my 20", or General AT2 on my 18", or Nexens all round on the Audi Cab. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

Joe... If you had skinny wheels like them, water is no problem. But the FFRR's wheels are so wide they spread the load so much that it does not cut through the water it skates over the top! That's the problem I have, the puddles really catch the car out. Previously..
