Wales 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black
Infrared transmitter vogue se 2007

Hi All
Just picked up my beautiful 2007 Vogue SE and loving it.
However, the wireless headphones don't work - spent 2 hours fiddling until I noticed that if you put them right next to the transmitter in the roof next to interior rear light, they start to work. But not if you sit in the back seat normally.
First thought was it might be the headphones and the dealer has ordered more, but when I got home I tried another set of IR headphones that are brand new and they did the same thing - started picking up sound when very close to transmitter.

Anyone got any clues??? Do I need a new transmitter?

Also does anyone know if I can use wired headphones one the meantime? Can I just plug into the aux socket?
Thanks!

Aux socket is input only I believe; as are the two sets of AV inputs (Red/White&Yellow phono plugs on same panel).
I don't think there is any provision for wired headphones. I have the factory fitted rear seat entertainment fitted too. I have never come across wired headphone sockets.
Aux socket is for mp3/ iPod device.
Have you tried switching headphones on and off on the front touchscreen? Sure there is also a channel A/B on headphones, have you tried both settings. I have the full RSE manual if you need me to check anything.
Have you tried brand new batteries in the headphones? I know you said you'd tried a new set of headphones but you may have used same batteries from old set.
Let me know if you need any info from manual.
Had it, loved it!

Thanks Dave
I have full set of manuals, but appreciate the offer.
I removed the cover to the infrared transmitter - and lo - it all works when that isnt on!
as soon as you put it in front of the infrared nodes, it blocks it again?
I cant really see how the cover can be faulty so can only assume that the signal is weak from the transmitter - ever heard of this before?
I'll get the dealer to buy the new part and see if it helps.
Other than that the car is simply bloody brilliant!
Cheers
Bill

Hi

Try taking off the red infra red cover from the panel in the roof. I did this and the headphones then worked. You can also test this with the red panel still on but put the headphones up real close - they should work.

I believe the LED infra red 'bulbs' wear out and grow weak - I managed to order the entire new roof unit.

Hope this helps - I can get the part number off the box if need be

Cheers

Bill

United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Santorini Black

I went to try my RSE stuff today as I'm going to be using it at the weekend (I've never used it really)

I also found that if you sit back in the seat normally, the headphones cut out, particularly on the driver's side, but if you get the headphones closer to the infra red sensor in the headlining it worked. I also had brand new batteries etc.

So, I took off the red cover and it worked perfectly. Thumbs Up

As Infra red is line of sight I decided to alter the way the diode things were pointing, as they were cutting out. Each side has 8 sensors, and the passenger side ones all seemed to be bunched up and pressed down against the PCB, so I lifted the top row ones up (thereby pointing higher up and further back into the back seat, towards the headrest.) When you do this, be VERY gentle.

Bingo: Works perfectly now, with the cover on too.

A nice simple fix. Pictures below to show you what's behind the red cover and the cover itself, so you can see the tangs for removing it without busting it.

I think I shall put this in a Wiki.
