To say these cars are supposed to be all weather, all terrain vehicles, I am rapidly losing faith in the FFRR.
I couldn't get out of the car last night as both passenger and drivers doors were frozen, even though I'd driven home with the heating on full for nearly an hour. I had to climb over to the rear seat and exit via the rear passenger door Yet I manage to get into the car when it was parked up outside the nick and it was froze over.

The heated front screen only clears the passenger side.

The heated washer jets aren't working.
I can't get any washer fluid up to the rear window.

A bit of cold weather and it's all over for this car. Our Golf has continued to battle on, with no faults. I appreciate that heated windscreens/washer jets are a luxury, but the drivers and passenger door locks freezing INSIDE the door is unacceptable IMO. I've never known this to happen to any car I've owned in the last 20 odd years. 02 Vogue

You have to remember that these cars have triple door seals, so a coat of silicone or vaseline on all rubber seals is a good idea. You have a much larger contact area as a result of the extra seals.

Preventative maintenance would be the key here......

The FFRR is such a good (quiet) vehicle because, in part, of the door seals - the likes of which you wont find on your Golf. The rubber seals freeze to the metal body of the door aperture. I too have had this problem and been advised of the simple solution - a bit of silicon spray of Vaseline on the seals.

A heated front screen which is only working on one side is a fault - just like any other faulty part. Live with it or replace it.

Heated jets are only useful if you have a decent grade of anti-freeze in your washer bottle. If the stuff in the bottle is frozen then heating the jets isn't going to do anything to help. I recently suffered frozen nozzles using undiluted screenwash ( ) however, when I checked the specification of the screenwash, I discovered it was only rated to -12 and I was driving about in -17!

The heated front screen only clears the passenger side. - This will more than likely be a bad connection to the screen. If you have any chips get a new screen installed.

The heated washer jets aren't working. - They only heat a few degrees above ambient, so at -10C they are still freezing. Read the blurb on your washer fluid and mix it to the right quantities in a 5L bottle first. To actually get decent frost protection you need to crank up the mixture. I'm using Autoglym All Season Screen Wash at the moment but I need to use the whole bottle at nearly £5 in 5l of water to get frost protection to -5. You have to use it neat to get the claimed -45 protection!

I can't get any washer fluid up to the rear window. - this like runs in the roof, the other side of the lining so gets very little heat from the interior (check the snow still on the roof) and the jet isn't heated at all. So the rear washer rarely works at low temps unless a strong mix is used.

With your doors I presume the door seals have frozen to the body, have you ever put silicon spray on the seals as per the maintenance or handbook instructions? Because the top of the door seal has a felt material on it if this is not done you can easily rip it off. Not so much of a problem for old cars that only have the one door seal, or if they have gutters, with the gutter-less RR the water sits right on the seal and of course freezes. Our main problem at the moment is the slight thaw on the cars leaves a little bit of water, rather than if it was consistently cold it would never melt and re freeze.

I know it's frustrating, but some things are really not the cars fault.

It's not the seals, the door won't open from inside when pulling on the handle. I can only assume the internal mechanism is frozen. 02 Vogue

The heated screen worked fine until the snow fell- I'm still getting frost on the drivers' side for a few miles. It does melt, but not as quick as the passenger side.

Noddy - did you ever solve your freezing door locks problem?

With the recent colder weather my drivers door lock is freezing. It unlocks and I can open it OK but I cant shut it. When I close the door it doesnt actually 'latch' and just bounces back open and the handle does not spring back into postion. I have to get into the car, hold the door closed and the lock all the doors, and hope that I dont need to get out for any reason as I cannot open the door from the inside until the car has warmed up!

I have given it a good spray with WD40 which worked for a few days but now the problem has returned.

nick, i had this same problem last year..the solution is to take the door card off and grease all the working lock parts...wd40 sometimes works but its only a short term fix... ..............................

Hi guys anybody recommend a particular silicone spray as this is an interesting topic as I spend a lot of time in very cold conditions & I dont want the rip the seals off my doors when I try to open them

As soon as I get a recommendation I will buy the stuff and spray it all over the car I mean  Mutt
