Have had this many many times with different customers telling me "oh, we've been to 5 different places over a period of a year or more" and your the first to fix it...

Baffles me how most of these people are still in business...

So, how confident are you?

I'd bring it to you on the basis that:
1) You only change one bit at a time. Any bits you fit, and time taken to fit them, that don't fix the problem are down to you.
2) You pay my time and travel expenses if you fail to find a cure.

had the same problem - replaced ball joints, suspension links, etc - without solving the problem.

advice i got from this forum was to loosen and tighten the suspension with all 4 wheels on the ground - the indie replaced the parts above with the wheels hanging (car was on a lift). however it only lasted for a few months.


a few weeks ago i took it to the same indie - this time they loosened the subframe and i dont know what all - amazingly the knock is still gone

car drive like a totally different car - suspension feels tighter - one actually now has the confidence to throw it into corners at much higher speeds than before - previously one was not always sure if the car would turn the way you want it to or not

so, before you spend anymore money, do the above and check it then - indie actually confirmed that i spent unnecessary money when the parts listed above were replaced

L322 steering rack.

Alright guys, just been reading about the knocking coming from the front of your L322's.
I've got the same with mine and once I'd got into the guts of her, noticed play in the actual rack itself.
The rack ends are fine as are all my ball joints, rubbers and links. It's coming from the O/S right at what looks like an adjuster to the front of the car.
Does anyone know if this can be adjusted or tightened to stop the inners of the rack moving around inside the casing?.
Cheers for your help and I hope this might help solve a few mysterious knocks.

Sorry mate, didn't think to take pictures.
I found it when I asked a friend to rock the steering for me and noticed the steering rack end had quite a bit of movement.
I obviously thought it was the replaceable end that was gubbed so I took the protective plastic boot off the assess the job in hand. No play in the ball end at all but plenty movement in the toothed shaft that moves in and out the rack to steer the car. It had up n down movement which seemed to be causing the knocking noise, pretty much like a knacked ball joint etc. Built it back up now to get me back on the road, not sure if the rack can be tightened in any way or if it needs to be replaced.
