How to reset your Service Indicator

I nabbed this from another forum who's name will remain unmentioned but if you need to reset the service interval indicator here's a method than MIGHT work.

NB: No one can tell me why it works in some vehicles but not others.

With ignition turned off, press and hold LH instrument panel button in the dash area.
With button depressed, turn ignition key to position I.
Continue to hold for five seconds until "SIA reset" appears, then release the button.
It will flash "reset SIA 3600 kms" and "Inspection".
Press the button for another five seconds until "Reset" appears.

Switch the ignition off.

Does this leave any trace on the ECU etc.? Don't want anybody invalidating their warranty.

Didn't work on mine!

Found this (below), is slightly different procedure, maybe this will work on someones car:

Resetting the Oil Service or Service Interval Message.
Ignition key must be “off”.
• Press and hold the trip odometer button in the instrument cluster (left button), and turn the ignition key to the first position (KLR).
• Keep the button pressed for approximately 5 seconds until one of the following words appear in the display: “OIL SERVICE, or “INSPECTION”, with “reset”.
• Release the reset button and press and hold it again until “reset” begins to flash.
• While the display is flashing, press the left button briefly to reset the service interval.
After the display has shown the new interval, the following will appear: “END SIA

I haven't found any other way to get this reset on a MY06+ vehicle apart from actually paying someone with the Testbook/Testbook clone to reset it or by actually getting the service done.

Anyone know better???

Mine currently says 03.2009. What will it say when this expires? (I know I only have to wait a few more days, but I'm impatient! Smile

Give these people a try, they may be able to reset it for cheaper than dealer.

Pyramid,

I'm afraid that's the same issue I had with my local indy garage, I specifically asked them if they could reset the SI and they said yes. After the service they said they couldn't do it afterall but assured me of a fix. In the end they had to pay the local LR dealer the cost of a service to do it! Discovery 4 HSE

Just as an item of information since this is a sticky: the service interval reset using the trip odometer button and the key only works on BMW based models. Jag based models (touchscreeen nav) need a diagnostic computer/tool. See the 'Blackbox Basic Bits' thread for more info.

Of note on my BMW equpiied 03 TD6 (not touch screen) you need to have the drivers door open sufficiently that the "Key in Ignition" warning pops up otherwise if you sit with the door shut - zilch.

I've had to reset mine as the lad at the main agent couldn't manage to remember the procedure - that said I paid for the cheap service. Only hope he remembered to put the sump plug back Evil or Very Mad 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS
