Unimog

Has anyone driven a variant of one at all??

Interested as they do sometimes come up cheaply and they can just about fit in the weight class that i can drive being under 3.5tonnes. And as i would be towing with one it would be just dandy Smile Obviously MPG is going to be single digits at best! but more interested in how capable they really are offroad and if they can be lived with day 2 day. Obviously multi stories are out and squeezing into a standard parking space would be as well Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Have had a small amount of experience with them. Pretty robust and awesome off road. Always had REME on hand though so no tech experience. I know the UK MOD is getting rid of them from time to time, poss more coming from afghan in the VNF.

Why do you worry so much Martin Smile

Just thinking of something that can take more offroad working. yes it would be fatter than the fattie but still Smile

I had heard about the afghan/iraq ones. Should have minimal rust/corrosion issues now they have dried out a bit Very Happy but you do wonder how many have 1st hand IED experience....

Ideally it would be a nice SWB CrewCab type model though as long as it can house 3 people sitting in it id be happy Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

lar dee dar dee dar Smile

TBH I cant see me getting one till I scrape the ex off my shoes and then using the chunk of the house on it if i feel flash instead of sensibly putting it into another house... And even then i'd still likely have to get a Cat C1 licence (wouldn't be towing a big trailer on it I reckon!) as even the lightest ones come it at 2900kg which doesn't really leave a lot once loaded up with fluids and kit over the basic chassis and a decent tub on the back Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

KP, I'm with you on this one - LEAVE HIM ALONE YOU 'ORRIBLE LOT !

Have a go in one - they're an absolute giggle. If you're looking for one, make sure it's got sensible ratios and is not "agri" spec - they're super crawlers !

I reckon you're better off going for a Steyr Pinzgauer . . . . . 2/3 scale Mog

or even a

Steyr Puch Haflinger . . . . 1/3 scale Mog

This is ours ! - &feature=plcp - now in bits awaiting restoration -

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

From what I understand KP can only realistically run one car so are you genuinely saying that switching from a ffrr to a unimog is in any way sane or sensible and not something he may just regret...... Shocked
