Hi all help req! Problems starting up ? Bought new battery and car will start,turn off and then key will not turn in ignition to start up ! If I disconnect battery and refit it will then turn and start up and then it won't start a 2 nd time until I disconnect battery again ? Will it be a trip to main dealers faulty ignition barrell ? That's the weirdest problem I have seen sofar. Just try the battery dis-connection procedure (Wiki) and hold the two clamps together (while they are off) for at least 10 seconds to reset all faults. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

there can be a problem with the key mechanisium ....take the console off an inspect it , how to in the wiki i believe.. ... - .- -.

I can't turn my key in the ignition either.

I am charging the battery up at the moment as I think that is my problem. I have checked the battery cables and they appear fine.

Will try the battery disconnect next.

Anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong?

When you first put the key in, can you hear any of the locks disengage? Even when I have had a flat battery it still let's me turn the key. Have you tried both keys? Previously..
Vogue SE TD6
Defender 90 2.4
Defender 110 TD5
Vogue 3.5 EFI

Both keys would not turn.

Charged the battery for several hours with a CTEK charger and still nothing.

I have disconnected and reconnected the battery and after arming and disarming the central locking it is now working again.

I think it is battery related. I left the car unlocked for a couple of days and wonder if this was to blame.

I can see a trip to Euro Car Parts in the near future!

Yes I changed the battery and no problem but when connected it up to computer it showed that the alternator was not charging he battery! Changed the alternator and have not had a problem! The battery has to have at lest 14 volts or the key wont engage ! I had to keep disconnecting battery every time I needed to start up until I changed the alternator ! Current tdv8 range vogue 07

I hope mine is just the battery rather than alternator. The car hasn't been used much over the last fortnight and I left it unlocked for 2 days.

At least I know my Tracker is working as I got a call from them within 5 minutes ofdisconnecting the battery!

That's good as the alternator was expensive ! Best getting battery fully charged and go from there ! Current tdv8 range vogue 07

Sorry didn't mention but it wouldn't let me turn the key before I charged the battery up only push it in ! Then nothing Current tdv8 range vogue 07
