Right, you have a voltmeter, but do you have an ammeter? This is what you need to look for a current drain. it needs to be connected in series with the positive battery cable, so one side to the battery +ve terminal and the other side to the battery +ve cable.

Yes, the red cable goes in the left socket on the meter and you select the 10A scale. MAX 10 amps.

Sorry, but if you want to check for drain down through the alternator you need to connect the ammeter as I described above.

Remember an alternator will put less volts into a fully charged battery than a flat one. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!
