Hello chaps, I'm after some advice please.

My driver's door lock has gone kaput. It will not open via key or remote from the inside handle or the outside handle. I just can't get the bloody driver door open no matter what I try.

The lock button does pop up and down and I can hear the usual lock/unlock noises but other than that - nothing.

Everything online suggests it can be remedied etc by removing the door card. However, I can't even get the blasted door to open so am flummoxed as to how I'd get the door card off anyway.

Has anyone had this? I am absolutely skint so don't have the wonga to just drop it off for someone else to sort out. Also we've had about a foot of snow up here over the last 48 hours. If anyone can offer any advice I'd be much obliged.

The drive to work was fun in one of my other cars. Rear wheel drive, no ABS, semi slick track tyres. Was a bit buttock clenching in places.

It sounds like its frozen shut, I had the same thing on a freelander yesterday and it was iced

I'd try some hot water around the hole door frame first

Have you tried to warm up the mechanism ?? Hot water on the door or putting an electric heater in the car ?? If it is the cold and moisture freezing up the lock then the heat will resolve it. If it is broken you need to get to a dealer/indy to fix it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Thanks for the comments chaps. I'm 75% sure it is not frozen up. We've had way colder these last few weeks and it hasn't. Last night was a balmy -2.

I'll give it a shot when I get home though.

There is no resistance from the handle or anything. It just feels like it does when it is locked - as in moves freely but doesn't open.

if it is a frozen door , they do need a good pull to open them, but you might find the rubbers torn if you try and pull whilst its still frozen...warm water or a hairdryer will probably help..... ... - .- -.

I've got to free mine as I haven't used it since Friday it's still covered in snow

Ill b using a empty coke bottle with hot water from the tap to get in mine today

I kind of assumed there would be some kind of resistance with a frozen door or lock. The handle itself moves freely. It feels just like it does when it is locked as said above. I would expect some kind of 'click/clunk' like you feel when opening normally, even if it is iced up.

When trying from the inside it is just the same. No resistance at all other than the normal feel when locked.

Odd, annoying and very, very Land Rover, especially when it is snowy.

when you use the remote to unlock can you hear a sound from the door and does the peg go up... ... - .- -.

Yes, absolutely. It all looks like normal. Just when you try the handle from outside or inside it doesn't open. It doesn't even seem to engage.

On my freelander exactly the same thing it was like I was pulling on a locked door with a free'd handle the rubber had frozen all the way round

i'd bet on the door being frozen then....

mine was and it needed a good tug to open it, but as i said the rubbers will maybe pull off the clips or tear....defo try and heat the door somehow.. ... - .- -.

Thanks Stan, I blooming well hope so.

Weird that all the other doors were fine though. If it is frozen could be indicative of a worn driver door rubber I suppose.

after 7 years or so the door rubber does get dry and remember its the drivers door that gets used the most....i started to condition the rubber with 'GUMMI PFLEGE STIFT' which worked to a certain extent but a new door rubber might be in order... ... - .- -.
