Dealer can disable previous key transponders, then supply you with new keys. If you have lost a key they would be able to open the door with the key, but not start the engine. I also think the alarm would go off, the key wouldnt be able to dissarm the alarm.

Thanks for that. Not what they said, funnily enough! I'd be quite happy to have the key in question disabled rather than have to do the whole lot. My specialist is investigating further as we speak! |

There's a recent post about programming keys yourself, I can't search for you as I'm on the train doing this via an iPod but a quick search should prove fruitful Discovery 4 HSE

Not true about early models. I have a 2002 vogue and I've been told I CAN recode the key by two different dealers and an indy.

Thanks folks. The car is off to my specialist next week to have the keys recoded. Ten minute job apparently and significantly cheaper than LR. |

That only re-programmes the central locking though, doesn't it?

It was. However, I've now had the locking reprogrammed so that the car will only start with the two main keys. The missing valet key will still open the door but the alarm will sound and the car will not start. Good enough for me. |
