Bonnet Lettering

I'm getting my bonnet resprayed in a few days and I was wondering about lettering options. I think I will probably go for the Titanium letters - should look nice against the red - but I notice that at least one supplier provides a "banana" shaped template "to match the original OEM curve" of the lettering. Is this a gimmick? or is it true? anyone any experience?
Thumbs Up Geoff

I colour coded my bonnet lettering - I've got a black car and put black letters on it.

I bought the curved letters to fit the bonnet better (and the fitting and removal kit). Paid a little more but the results are worth it. Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Geoff you should make your own template in advance with masking tape taking into account height from lip of boot and bonnet. I removed mine for respray and whilst close they are positioned too high Thumbs Up Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Thanks guys, just so we aren't at cross purposes I will get curved backed letters for the front and flat ones for the rear (IF I ever get round to it) but do they sit on a curve or a straight line.

The front edge of the bonnet is not straight it curves up towards the head light from the lowest point at the middle of the grill.

Conor:
I can't leave masking tape stuck to the bonnet as I am having it resprayed, but I will take some photos and note down a lot of measurements.

Thanks for your help so far Thumbs Up Geoff

The front bonnet letters sit on a curve.
I replaced ROVER on my as they were a bit rough.
I got the letters from Dan. The template was straight but the letters were set in over-sized cut outs in which they were individually set at slight angles to each other to form a definite curve which matched the bottom line of the bonnet.

Geoff,

Make a template by buying some masking tape, sticking it all over the front edge of your bonnet (6" or so high) leaving holes where your letters now sit... Write on some reference points... ie, measure the gap from badge to lower edge of bonnet, mark where the grill insert starts etc etc then peel the whole thing of in one and stick it sticky side up on top of the wifes kitchen cupboards or somewhere it wont stick to... When the car is returned, line up your reference marks, stick the thing back on the front of your car and fit your new badge back in the holes you left whilst taping round your old badge... Simples Wink

So out in the cold this morning with card, masking tape and scissors. I knew those Mother's Day cards would come in for something Very Happy
Very satisfactory result, ordered the letters hope to get bonnet sprayed this week sometime, seems the letters are 31mm up from front edge using the hook on my tape measure and the words are 90mm apart so 45mm each side of centre. Thanks Craig it was pretty simple although the amount of curve surprised me. Conor if you want the template after I've finished PM me your address.
Thumbs Up Geoff

So the letters arrived today, not curved at the back so may be just about OK for the rear but not the bonnet - doh! and the template I made is better, much better, than the one they provided.

Would appreciate any advice on a source of letters, how much for OEM? I'm looking for Titanium Silver.
Another off the wall thought - has anyone sprayed and re applied the original letters?

I think these will have to go back, what a PITA Shocked Geoff
