wait for Dan at Duckworths or Overfinch to have a set up for grabs and bag "free" new wheels into the bargain. Thats what I did.

Best plan, you know where they are from, that they arent dodgy and are at a good price. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Hey guys, I know you're both right. It makes complete sense to buy the wheels and tyres as new in this way although I'm waiting for a certain style. As a matter of interest would I need adapters for my 2002 Vogue? I bought the car with Supercharged wheels so don't know whether these are already adapters or larger nuts on the wheels compared to the way it left the factory.

The ones on eBay are a bit too much for me and I've made my mind up to go for Pirellis unless a really juicy deal comes along. Im fine with ฃ8-900 for the right combo.

Thanks again for your advice.

You shouldnt need adaptors just a new set of wheel nuts as the later wheels need a different type of nut as the holes in the later wheels are slightly larger.

Good luck with you search. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

About 5 inches and melting. Roads are all fine though.

Wish there was more to go and play in. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Nothing down in London but with relatives due down from Cheshire on Thursday I'm hoping it doesn't get worse but I think they said we would get more later in the week. This time last year we had the barbi out!

" I bought my car on a mix of Toyo's up front and Nexen Roadian (brand new) on the rears.
The Toyo's quickly worn on the outer edges, even though the central area of tread had a lot of life remaining. I had the tracking checked immediately which was not at fault. I ran the recommended pressures for the 20" size, 36psi front and 42psi rear.
The Roadian's although a lot of people rate them, are a budget tyre choice for this car. I didn't like the way they appear to bulge out on the sidewall. I would sometimes find myself re-checking the pressures more frequently as I thought they were going flat... "

Bought an S/C off a LR main dealer.. Before selling the car main dealer fitted x4 Nexen Roadian tyres. On querying why they'd fitted a 'budget' tyre to such a vehicle they were adamant these are a tried and tested quality tyre with a proven track record and excellent durability making them real value for money... They did not accept they area budget tyre... Can't really comment on how they will fare as only done a few hundred miles to date but they look good enough on the wheels, protect the rim edge by design and appear quiet and smooth on the road...

Let us know how you get on with them.
Generally as with most things, you get what you pay for.
All tyre brands will have to meet the minimum required specification to get the approvals to be sold.
I've always bought the best tyres I could afford but I'm not suggesting most expensive = best.
From experience with motorcycling, I wouldn't entertain a lesser known brand and would stick with the major manufacturers.
I spoke with a local tyre supplier who regularly goes to trade shows etc
His opinion on tyres for my FF was that the Michelins were far superior to any of the other premium branded tyres available.
He knows lots more about tyres than I do. His opinion was un-biased in my case as I had already bought new wheels fitted with the Michelins.
Of note is that the Michelins required very few lead balancing weights to be added to the wheels, this tells me they are manufactured to a very exacting standard.

The Nexens have a lot fans on the forum. I personally always used Vredestein tyres on other cars in the past; I rated them very highly. About 7 years ago I fitted a set on a Volvo S80 T6, they performed exceptionally well on a 270 BHP front wheel drive car. Again a lot on the forum use the Wintracs and really rate them.
Had it, loved it!

Not quite un-biased. He's just sold you some tyres and he's hardly going to tell you that you could have got better for cheaper off him at this point.

That said Michelins are excellent for all round comfort and ride but Pirelli Scorpion Zeros are my fave if you like to "make progress".

i had nexens on my td6 and rate them ...the only consideration is that the side walls are softer than a conti or michelin so you tend to get more 'flexibility' when going around corners ... ... - .- -.

^ I didn't make that as clear as I could. Embarassed
I bought wheels and tyres from Dan@ Duckworths.
I didn't buy anything from the local guy, merely asked his opinion, whilst I was visiting the business next door.

I love a good tyre thread.

I normally buy the premium end of non-branded. These were very cheap - cheaper than I normally buy but the reviews were good. So far I've not had buyer remorse. My requirements are quite specific though, I don't off-road and I use dedicated winter tyres in the winter.

I agree with anyone who says tyres are very important, and I would pay premium for quality. I just think if you're careful with your shopping you can get quality without paying premium. Also, my car is 10 years old. I'm not sure I'd make the same choice if it was new.
