Before I became 'plod', I was an engineer for 20 years. I've repaired most things, from cars when I left school, to Fork Lift Trucks and have seen most other things in between. I'm glad I can do my own repairs and I will only rely on a dealer/specialist for anything that involves being plugged into a computer to diagnose.

They are dear though. My USB code reader cost £30 from the internets and plugs into my laptop. Will do everything in the engine. Coupled with the iBus interface (£40) I can code the nav, TV, LCM, PDC till my hearts content. |

Sadly I had a similar experience when my TD6 was serviced by a local independent garage. Although they used genuine parts from the local Dealer and were fine at what they do (and of course cheaper than a service at the dealer) , only when I decided to do an interim service prior to my European road trip did I discover why my mpg had dropped.

Bloody hell RR, that's one of the dirtiest air filters I've ever seen! You sure they didn't accidentally use it as an oil filter instead? |
