LPG Servicing

I just received this and thought it maybe of interest to a few:

Hi Gary,

You enquired about a LPG conversion with Arun / Capital Autogas some time ago,
I assume you have had the conversion done by one of our competitors & are now enjoying cheaper motoring.
Were you informed that LPG systems require annual servicing to keep them running at their optimum efficiency?
This will make the most of your investment.

that's a good deal! c. £100-£120 is normal. I think they can sometimes do it online?? anyone confirm this?

I saw someone (france based?) on here say they hadn't had a service in 3 years but I can confirm that it needs to be done every year (or c. 200 hrs driving - only what I was told!).

I over-ran the LPg service by a little bit and had to replace the injectors at £300 (for all 8 cylinders) as the filter was getting white gunk in it and was blocking the flow and causing stuttering on acceleration.

That is an excellent price, the filter alone is the best part of £30 from BRC.

Dolphin - I think you are referring to my post in another thread - I do not advocate no servicing for 3 years! My filter was first changed at 20K miles and it was well overdue, the second one changed at 20K miles and this also was pretty dirty. But they were still doing what they are supposed to do. Personally I think no servicing for 3 years for a car which is doing very little mileage is not going to be a problem - that was the context of the other thread...

@ jerry. Sorry, didn't read it all. as you say, yes they will still work without regular servicing ...but not as well! Thumbs Up

My last LPG RR was a P38 - Thornton with BRC sequential injection LPG system.

I did 100,000 moles in 18 months - changed the filter a couple of times during that period (when I thought about it) with ones sourced off the bay for under a tenner. Ran perfectly the whole time.

I checked the mixture with an exhaust sniffer once or twice and was always perfect.

So, apart from the filter, they really shouldn't need anything doing. £100 odd for a man to undo a couple of jubilee clips, fit a filter that must cost them a fiver seems a bit steep to me.

Obviously I did the "normal" servicing, oil, filters etc to a schedule - but just left the gas alone - like you do with the petrol injection part of the engine.

The googsy disease is spreading!!

As above i only had one car that was LPG and that was my coop. I did the filter once myself with an ebay special one and didn't take long to do but jsut stuck ontop of normal servicing but found the less i used petrol the better the oil was that came out and i could run to normal fiat service intervals for the oil without it degrading that much or clogging up Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

You're probably right but in addition to the filter they use their computer to check/adjust the paprameters etc. Mine were re-adjusted on the last service until they were near perfect and its run so much better since. Thumbs Up

Fair enough, but if the system is installed correctly in the first place, and had a check after about 1000 miles (not moles Mr Android spell corrector) it should stay in tune on a modern car. The lpg computer should be linked in so it can see what the lambda sensors and MAF are reporting and keep itself in tune. Mine certainly did.
