I think LOG BOOK LOAN Companies keep the V5c document but I guess getting a copy is not exactly difficult...

Another thing to be wary of when dealing with cars with finance owing.

Find out the company and the details BEFORE hand and then visit their website to get their number. Dont rely on the seller phoning them up and handing you the phone once DPA is done as how do you know he hasn't just called a 'mate' to tell you what you want to hear? Better if the financee rings the company up and gives leaves your name with them as someone able to query the amount outstanding over the phone at a time convenient to you Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

HPI exclusions (http://www.hpicheck.com/furniture/termsAndConditions.html)

12.8 Any loss arising as a result of a fraudulent transaction which prevents legal title being passed to you.

As the vendor would have acted fraudulently in getting another V5 when the logbook loan company had the original, I'd imagine that would come into play My plan was idiot-proof ...
