Headlamp glass removal 2006>

Could do with removing the glass on the front of a 2006 headlamp to clean the inside.

There's around 6 clips on the outside which I've removed but it won't budge, appears like it's stuck with sealant.

Any tips on how to remove? TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

it should come apart with a little tease with a screwdriver it only has a rubber seal unless someone used a silicon type sealant if it was changed before but hopefully its just a little pressure required.

I presume they are the same construction as the RRS, if so then you will not be able to take them apart, they are a sealed unit. the only way I heard of it being done (for bling purposes) was to stick them in the oven to warm the glue that holds them together. Was it worth it? Would they be fully waterproof afterwards? Who knows.

They have clips around the outside which suggests they aren't permanantly sealed.

I thought as you say they'd be sealed but perhaps the clips pull the lense tight against the seal. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Just my advice, prising them open sounds like a recipe for cracked glass to me and a new headlamp unit is not cheap.

I checked RAVE and there's nothing about taking the headlamps apart, just removal and bulb replacement.

Good luck! Shocked Discovery 4 HSE

Thanks will try those things, don't want to be too forceful and break the lense. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

If you just want to remove small debris, use a long chopstick with UHU Patafix or similar on the tip through the bulb removal opening - it's what I did on mine!

Or, remove the whole part from the car, take out the bulbs and then stick a vacuum cleaner hose in the bulb hole to suck out debris.

If the lense is dirty inside then you've got a duff one letting in water and dirt. Discovery 4 HSE

I agree with RRUK. Don't try to force it cos it will definately break. The RRS lot take theirs apart to colour code the plastic bit inside (a bit purist!). They can be seperated - pasted from another site:

"315 degrees in the oven for 8 minutes actually works. It might be a good idea to take out the bulbs too. You need to put the headlight on really strong cardboard paper so that it doesn't melt on metal. When you take it out, it will be hot so you need to use a thin rag. Then try to split the cover with a flat head screwdriver. "

I personally wouldn't risk this unless the problem bothered me that much that I was considering replacing the lamp anyway (then you'd have nothing to lose!)

Good luck if your going to chance it! Shocked

I try in the first instance then to remove the bulbs and clean the glass through the holes, If that doesnt work i'll try the removal of the lense.

I'll keep you posted how i go on tommorrow Wink TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Hello

I did this on my Disco a while ago :

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic36286.html?highlight=headlamp

The principle is the same on most current vehicle headlamps, including 2006-on L322 (on 2002 to 2005, clips where doing the job, and on 2009-on there is no more clips, such as on 2009-on RRS and D4. - I guess the glue technology has evolved, leading to not secure it all with clips at all)

This works, headlamps where watertigh still after the operation (tested in real life conditions !)

The US L322 forum had a few guys color coding the 2006-2009 headlights with this technique.
