How to run on Jack stands?

Hello all.... i' m trying to detect a noise which i thought was transmission , but now think could be transfer and a bearing as well. So i thought that running on jack stands was worth a try.
There is a sort of judder like slipping and catching when under torque. Accelerating up a hill brings the noise.... i will start a post on that with a sound file , but for now i want to detect where exactly the noise is coming from.
When i finally manage to raise all 4 wheels, having taken out suspension fuses 7 & 57. I get funny knocks and vibrations when trying braking, but also happens when accelerating sometimes. I feel scared to go faster than the 20mph that I've reached up to now. Can and should ABS be deactivated to allow braking.
Has anybody managed to drive on jack stands without trouble?
Even then i'm not sure i recreate the torque needed to reproduce the noise.
Thanks to anybody who can give any ideas...
