Well, Mr. chopdogs, your Classic has got to be one of the most original I've seen - it looks superb !

You've got some very rare & desirable parts on there . . . the most being the vinyl gearbox tunnel cover. If you haven't already done so, I'd be tempted to remove all the interior, clean it thoroughly and store in the dry.
Also, the bonnet mirrors, chrome wiper arms and scuttle badges all go back to 1971 !

As for the tailgate, yours has the flip down number plate. They're rare also. How about re - skinning the one you have ?

If the tyres don't work out, perhaps try these:

I guess these will be the nearest modern equivalent - they were standard 90 fitment for a few years -

Good luck with it all !

Thumbs Up

The book I mentioned previously is:
"Original Range Rover - The Restorer's Guide to all carburettor models 1970 - 1986" by James Taylor Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Thanks very much!

It also has the original spare wheel cover, which I believe are quite rare. Plus, and this'll make you jealous - there is an original Palomino PVC seat base that came with the car.....

As far as I can tell, the only pieces that are missing from the (excluding, of course, the sills, A posts, B posts and rear crossmember which have rusted clean away Shocked ) are the clock, the tools and the twirly nut type thingy that secures the spare wheel.

The originality was the reason that I decided to buy the car

I'm very pleased with the purchase and very daunted by the task ahead!

Excellent ! - mine (sorely missed Big Cry ) was very similar in condition, but the posts were ok - it needed a new cross member, however. I've read the early ones - built by The Rover Car Company, don't you know - were far higher quality in both materials and build quality that those built from a couple of years later. We can thank British Leyland for that - it's probably why there are far less mid to late 70's cars ?

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?
